The accelerating climate crisis has highlighted the need for sustainable energy alternatives like Biofuels. International Energy Agency (IEA) states that the global biofuel demand is expected to expand to 38 billion litres throughout 2023 – 2028, a 30% increase from the last 5 years, particularly in emerging economies like India, Brazil, & Indonesia.   India is now the world's 3rd largest producer & consumer of ethanol. The Indian government has been promoting Biofuels extensively. The National Policy on Biofuels, released in 2018, aiming for a 10% ethanol blending in gasoline by 2022. Revised policy in 2022, the blending target was set at 20% by 2025.    Sustainability is not the only concern when it comes to Biofuels in India. As per IEA, India's annual import bill for fossil fuels is projected to triple by 2040. It is tapping alternative forms of energy to reduce import dependence. But food security is a concern & the use of food crops for producing Biofuels is being discouraged. The government is promoting the use of agri-waste through its initiatives like BioUrja, PM JI-VAN Yojana, & SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation). The government has already prohibited the use of edible feedstock such as corn, starch, & molasses.   While there are indeed challenges associated with using agri-waste/biomass to create biofuels, it's important to note that these challenges are not insurmountable. One such challenge is the hydrophobic state of agri-waste/biomass, which makes it difficult to process and convert into biofuels. However, technology has the potential to play a crucial role in overcoming this challenge, offering a promising solution for the industry's future.   𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗘𝗥 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀.
