Having spent a lifetime speaking with women and now focusing on those 45+, we know they love to express themselves. Some through their home, their work, their garden, but time and time again we hear that at this life stage when they equate feeling good with the confidence of experience, they look to fashion to reflect this fabulousness...but particularly here in NZ - struggle to find what they are looking for. Such a missed opportunity....Smith & Caughey's #TheStellaCollective #womenover45 #blindspotnomore #superconsumers #movingmarkets #livingstartsafter45 #spendingstartsafter45

Normally, I do a Feelgood Friday - but let's start with a Magic Monday! In a world where bricks and mortar are struggling, retailer johnlewis in the UK has experienced quite the coup in their woman's fashion department. Personal stylist appointments are up 26% - no doubt the bottom line reflects it too. Their secret weapon is QUERALT FERRER JOSA and @Rachelmorgans - two women, forces to be reckoned with, with oodles of experience, who know the power of the 45+ woman. They are recognising her needs, designing for her and celebrating her - right there, on the landing page of women's fashion! Smith & Caughey's - get in touch with us The Stella Collective so we can do this even better - Kiwi style. Women here are screaming out for it - we've done the research, listened and have a community who are ready for a shake-up and willing to spend! Did you know that women aged 45 and older hold $30 trillion in spending power? 💰 We spoke to Sasha Radford from The Stella Collective about how to address clients who might be skeptical about tapping into the 'older' market. Her take was simple! As the largest generation alive, it would simply be unwise to not target them. So how are you targeting this section of the market? 🤔

How can brands connect with the 45+ demographic? 🤔 Lot Hawkins from The Stella Collective gave us the scoop. Her important advice? Go beyond the stereotypes. Marketing is usually focused on groups within the 20-50 year old age range, but there's so much to uncover beyond this. So dig into the needs of that 45-85-year-old market and understand them. Because everyone in this group has their own unique passions and interests—just like any other age group. What tools do you use to dig deep into the needs of your consumers? Let us know below! 💜✨

A plea for humanity in the innovation process - He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata he tangata he tangata!

Having lived in NZ for nearly 10 years I continue to be wowed with the Māori culture and how we can learn from each other. One of the most famous Māori proverbs deeply resonates: He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata he tangata he tangata! What is the most important thing? It is people, it is people it is people. AI is starting to rule, tech companies are trying to become even bigger, and we are becoming more removed from each other, it is people that is most important. Just looking at research, there is an influx of 'bad' respondents, synthetic data and generally an issue with quality of respondents. But we know; It is people that will make of break your innovation. It is people that will give you the insights that you need. It is people that can elevate your innovation experience, product and service development. We, Sasha Radford and I, aka #thestellacollective invest personally in getting to know each and every single person one on our database, we invest in training up our people so they can help you. We might not do big numbers but we do invest in quality, we invest in people. He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata he tangata he tangata!

4 reasons that all popped up this week shows us how big the opportunity of truly investing in the over 45s generations is. Don't be the lagger, get in front of it a and let #thestellacollective be your go-to-resource. 1) China is the first country in the world to raise retirement age (thank you Mafalda Honório for drawing my attention to this) - a response to shifting demographics and new economic realities. I wonder which country will be next. This will have huge implications. https://lnkd.in/gnX2tmA5 2) Deeply understanding the changing demographics of 'older' people in the UK. Centre for Ageing Better has put out some interesting, useful infographics on the state of the nation. I would love to see something similar for NZ. It helps us understand each other and our needs better. https://lnkd.in/gsQj9sUU 3) Learning that 70% of the marketers is young (<35!) - how does that work? That means that their natural focus is on their own groups and younger ones but who is going to look after us? We know the over 45s are the biggest group in society, and the ones with most disposable income, why are we not actively targeting these generations? We also know we are all working till much later in life and we have so much to offer. 4) Stock photos - we all use them. But have you ever tried to find photos that depict the over 45s in the right way; active, full of personality, with a touch of aspiration? Not ones that are bound by stereo types, that are dull, that depict old people from a biased perspective so much so that we don't recognise ourselves in it. There is very very little out there. Such a big opportunity to create a database that truly empowers this group. Keri Little, perhaps a little seed? So on the back of all of this - the opportunity is huge. Why not look at how you can incorporate our wisdom, and insights into your company, your offering, your innovation? hashtag #thestellacollective is your go-to resource of highly engaged, diverse, fiercely bright, and creative 45+ consumers you can bring in for a one-off or long-term to stimulate innovation or comms development because they know what they want and like—and they just don't see it out there! #generationsover45 #goldenopportunity #innovationmatters

Risky using this film as inspiration for my last post? Maybe. But as someone who has always connected and valued what those older than me bring to the table (wisdom, experience, pragmatism and a strong sense of fun) - I remember how much I loved this film and the moral of the story. Better together!

One of the best things about working as an independent for the better part of a decade is the exposure to different ways of working, thinking, and collaborating. You also need to be agile, flexible and humble - because let's face it, when you're starting with a new client, you're always going to get a few things not quite right first go! But the best thing you bring to the table is fresh thinking, perspective, and new ways of seeing and approaching a problem the client has often been mulling over for a long time. This is what collaborating with #TheStellaCollective brings to brands focused on connecting with the valuable 45+ cohort. It is a go-to resource of diverse, fiercely bright, engaged, and creative 45+ consumers you can bring in ad hoc or long-term to stimulate innovation or comms development because they know what they want and like—and they just don't see it out there! With marketing departments being increasingly younger - think of this as the perfect opportunity for cross-generational creativity! Akin to the Intern (great film) - but far better! #TheStellaCollective #blindspotnomore #superconsumers #movingmarkets #livingstartsafter45 #spendingstartsafter45
