Congrats to portfolio company, Atmo, for signing a multi-year commercial agreement with the Department of Science and Technology (Philippines) (DOST). In partnership with DOST’s ASTI and PAGASA, Atmo will deliver ultra-precise, AI-driven weather forecasting for the entire nation. Using AI models trained specifically on local weather data, the system offers 100x more detail than standard forecasts, with a high resolution of 2km. This collaboration aims to help the Philippines mitigate the devastating impacts of extreme weather, including tropical cyclones that affect millions each year. Atmo’s forecasts will enhance disaster preparedness, improve safety, and benefit industries like agriculture, aviation, and renewable energy. Full implementation is expected within a year, marking a significant advancement in AI-powered meteorology. Portfolio company, Skyloom Global, has taken a major step in expanding its global reach by launching Skyloom Europe through a joint venture with Italy's Officina Stellare. The new facility in northern Italy will produce advanced optical communications terminals designed to support multi-orbit satellite networks, building on Skyloom’s existing Colorado-based operations that serve the US military. This partnership offers Skyloom access to the rapidly growing European satellite communications market, projected to reach €12B by 2031. By leveraging laser-based technology that can transmit up to 100 times more data than traditional radio frequency systems, Skyloom is shifting towards a secure connectivity-as-a-service model. The collaboration with Officina Stellare will provide both commercial and technical expertise, ensuring a strong foothold in Europe. With its innovative Quantum Key Distribution technology for enhanced security, Skyloom Europe is poised to drive the future of satellite communications. This joint venture is the latest in a series of strategic collaborations, building on Skyloom’s global partnerships, including those with Space Compass, Axiom Space, and NEC.
