Honored to have the opportunity to respond to the insightful Issues in Science and Technology article authored by President Susan Rundell Singer, The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Director Heidi Schweingruber, and NASEM Program Officer Kerry Brenner. Their article, "Boost Opportunities for Science Learning With Regional Alliances" espouses how "local collaborations among schools, higher education institutions, businesses, and community groups can achieve what top-down directives cannot." I am grateful for the opportunity to respond and share my perspective as the Executive Director of the STEM Funders Network. One of the original cornerstones of SFN was the belief in and bolstering of regional STEM alliances. Thus several members supported the launch of the STEM Learning Ecosystems in 2014. The commitment to the concept of regional alliances continues today as an intentional part of their investment strategies. Please read ISSUES article and the subsequent responses of several STEM education leaders. Access in Action! We can hardly wait until October! 🚀
Dr. James L. Moore III, director of the National Science Foundation’s Directorate for STEM Education, will be joining the Chicago convening of the STEM Learning Ecosystems Community of Practice. Dr. Moore, who has been in regular conversation with the leadership of the STEM Learning Ecosystems, spoke during a January 2024 webinar and said: "We're at a crossroads where we must double down on investments in domestic populations lacking support for STEM careers, especially in underserved communities." In accepting the invitation to participate in the Chicago convening, titled “Access in Action,” Dr. Moore said he looks forward to rolling up his sleeves and involving members of his team in developing and designing solutions that will offer support to the “missing millions” of learners who are kept out of STEM because of systemic barriers. Stay tuned for more information about his address, and register for the convening today! https://lnkd.in/e4M4yaBW

Hello all! We are excited to invite you to a webinar to build a Community of Practice for the academic side of STEM in Maryland. The Maryland STEM Ecosystem will welcome members in early July. In preparation for this "Ribbon Cutting" ceremony, we invite all of Maryland Academia to join the cause. This initiative is designed to unite individuals passionate about STEM education and its future in our state. The webinar will take place on July 12, 2024, from 1230 pm – 130 pm. The goal is to have at least one representative from each school district or institution in Maryland. However, there is no upper limit to the number of participants—everyone is welcome! Why Join? This STEM Community of Practice will be a vital committee to share academic and industry-led programs and events. By participating, you will: 1. Advise on STEM Needs: Play a critical role in identifying and addressing the academic STEM needs across Maryland. 2. Exclusive Opportunities: Receive exclusive invitations to events and programs beneficial for your organization or institution. 3. Regional Representation: Ensure your region’s voice is heard, bringing significant impact opportunities in STEM for students statewide. Please share this invitation widely across all educational platforms! Post it, forward it, and encourage your colleagues to join. Together, we can make a substantial difference in the STEM landscape for our students. Attendees may register for the webinar with the form at: https://lnkd.in/eH9EE27x Let’s come together to foster a dynamic and collaborative STEM community that drives academic excellence. What an inspiring evening at Project Exploration's 25th Anniversary Gala! 🎉 I was proud to represent TIES Teaching Institute for Excellence in STEM as a sponsor for this impactful event. Project Exploration's dedication to creating transformative STEM opportunities for underrepresented youth is truly commendable. Witnessing their impact firsthand was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. Here's to 25 years of opening doors in STEM, and to many more ahead! Congratulations to the entire Project Exploration team and their partners on this milestone.
