Building collaborative relationships with public education to transform classrooms for students and teachers of color

About us

Technology Access Foundation (TAF), founded in 1996, is a Seattle-based non-profit leader rooted in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. TAF provides an equitable public school STEM education for underserved students and support for educators of color. We make systemic change through creative partnerships within public education and STEM industries. We address three problems that keep underserved students away from STEM and essentially disqualify them from competing and thriving in today’s society: 1) Low expectations 2) A shortage of role models in STEM 3) Lack of access to quality, STEM-focused education We use STEM education as a tool for social change and educational equality. Our targeted approach for addressing longstanding historical inequities for students of color develops leadership and citizenship in ALL students. TAF is a pioneer in education. We focus our partnership efforts to provide students the kind of education they couldn’t get through a typical charter or public school. We provide innovative learning models, professional development for teachers, and opportunities for students and teachers to learn from and work alongside STEM professionals and use cutting-edge technology. The stakes are high, and as a whole, we can’t afford to lose bright minds to poverty or to lose jobs to nations that are better prepared. Most importantly, we can’t afford to miss out on what any one of these students has to offer.

Innovation meets compassion! Our 8th graders are changing lives with their Project Invent designs, and we are proud to announce that two of our TAF@Saghalie teams have won! These young minds are creating solutions that matter. Iker and Sebastian's team won the Needfinder Award for their empathetic video game controller design for kids with disabilities. Their solution accounted for blindness and hand mobility challenges. The judges praised their ability to deeply understand their community partner's experiences and needs. Remy's team won the Explorer Award for their foldable step-stool design for the MaST Aquarium. The stool allows kids to easily access the tanks and can be stored away when not in use. The judges were impressed by Remy's confident and knowledgeable presentation of the team's rigorous research and design process. Help empower the next generation of problem-solvers by supporting our One Student Infinite Futures campaign! Discover and donate today to unlock limitless learning opportunities for our students. #InnovationForGood #ProjectInvent #FutureProblemSolvers #LimitlessLearning #YouthInnovators #EmpowerYouth #OneStudentInfiniteFutures

  • ”Juneteenth means freedom for so many people, for so many reasons. I try to get people to understand it’s not a Texas thing, is not a Black thing — it’s freedom for everybody. I’m hoping, eventually, we will celebrate from the 19th of June to the Fourth of July; that would be celebrating freedom.“ - Opal Lee, "Grandmother of Juneteenth"
