Did you know no-excuse absentee voting starts today in Missouri? In 2022, Missouri lawmakers passed legislation allowing no-excuse absentee voting during the two weeks prior to an election. Election officials are asking voters to do their homework — the ballot in St. Louis City and St. Louis County is 20 inches long! Election officials are also urging voters to vote early to avoid long lines on Nov. 5th. For details: https://lnkd.in/gP6fhMGW

Missouri's Latino population is growing — and fast. The demographic shift is prompting political strategists, both in the state and nationally, to recognize the increasing influence of Latino voters in upcoming elections. But, engaging with this community requires candidates to approach the voting bloc authentically and consider the diverse perspectives within it. St. Louis Alderwoman Daniela Velázquez, the first Latina elected to city office, emphasized the importance of the community's inclusion in the political conversation. “If you're not at the table, you're on the menu," she said. "And if you know anything about Latino cooking, you want our sazón. You want our flavor at the table.” I’ll be diving deeper into this topic tonight at the University of Missouri-Saint Louis’ Anheuser-Busch Hall (Room 0003) from 5-6:30 p.m. I hope to see you there as we explore the Latino community's growing influence in Missouri and the United State's political landscape. A big thank you to everyone who shared their insights with me: Israel Baeza, Republican Pettis County Commissioner; Rosetta Okohson from MO Political Consulting; Ness Sándoval from Saint Louis University; Ben Molina, President of the HLG Hispanic Leaders Group of Greater St Louis (STLHLG); and many more. 🔗 Read more about the community's emerging political potential in my latest piece for St. Louis Public Radio below. #Elections2024 #HispanicHeritageMonth #MissouriPolitics #Diversity #Latinos

What a night at the Missouri History Museum! Nuestra Comunidad: Hispanic St. Louis was held this week to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Our board members came to represent! There were delicious Hispanic food vendors along with performances by Alma de Mexico St. Louis and Sumak Kamari Tradicional Dance Group of Ecuador. HLG board member Gabriela Perez Cornelius not only performed, but also helped organized the entire event! A great panel discussion led by Nine PBS Carol Daniel with HLG board member Justina Coronel, Dr. Nathalia Garcia, Octavio Nieto, and Ana Rivera Gonzalez. The conversations involved topics of struggle, pride, and successes with a focus on the future.
