Team Stonewall rolled up our sleeves this past Friday to lend a hand with Habitat for Humanity of Wake County! Our team spent the day installing insulation, framing walls, installing trusses, and so much more! While our team was tired at the end of the day, we were also incredibly appreciative of the hard work and grateful for the opportunity to volunteer in our community. With one in four families in our community facing housing challenges, it’s a powerful reminder of why giving back is so important. His favorite aspect of working at Stonewall is getting out in the field each week to see different structures. He enjoys the hands-on experience and variety that comes with it. For current or future engineers looking to join our team, Nick shares an important tip: the same issue can come from different causes. It’s a good reminder as it highlights the importance of thorough analysis and problem-solving. Outside of work, Nick enjoys playing disc golf and pickleball, as well as woodworking. We are thrilled to announce that Matthew C. Murphy, PE, CWI has joined the Stonewall team as our new Inspections Division Manager! A proud graduate of NC State University, Matt is a licensed Professional Engineer and Certified Welding Inspector. He brings 12 years of valuable experience in investigative engineering services, with expertise in the inspection and nondestructive testing of essential infrastructure, such as towers, bridges, and dams. Matt was attracted to Stonewall to deepen his engineering expertise and to collaborate with a team of dedicated professionals committed to delivering high-quality and impactful services. He is eager to work on projects that make a meaningful difference for our clients and to help drive the growth of our inspections group and Stonewall as a whole. In his spare time, Matt enjoys cheering on the Canes at hockey games, spending quality time with family at the lake, and hitting the slopes for skiing and snowboarding during the winter months. We are excited to share highlights from our tour of Building 4, the beautiful latest addition to Live Oak Bank's Wilmington, NC campus. Designed by LS3P and built by Monteith Construction, Building 4 was completed earlier this year and is a stunning example of a 100% mass timber building. Thank you to the Urban Land Institute for organizing this tour, and to Live Oak Bank for their hospitality and their willingness to help pioneer the use of this innovative building technique in North Carolina and the Southeastern US. Next up on Stonewall's #MeetTheTeam is Will Rogers! Will is one of our Project Engineers and has been with Stonewall Structural Engineering, PLLC for a year. His favorite aspect of working at Stonewall is the inspections. Being able to interact with clients and potentially help them with home issues has been an amazing experience, and he loves the hands-on learning that comes with the job. For current or future engineers looking to join our team, Will emphasizes the importance of knowing how to communicate effectively with homeowners who may not understand technical terminology. Being able to explain concepts clearly is a vital part of our work. He also encourages you to learn to play pickleball or disc golf, as it's a fun way to connect with colleagues. Outside of his professional life, Will enjoys surfing and any activity that puts him in the water. When he’s not surfing or at work, he loves cooking from scratch, whipping up everything from bagels to pasta and a variety of sauces. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication, Will.
