About us
Stony Brook Medicine expresses our shared mission of research, clinical care and education – a mission embraced by our faculty, staff, researchers, and students. It is the embodiment of everything we do on behalf of the health of patients – not only here in our community, but also in the region and worldwide. Stony Brook Medicine comprises five Health Sciences schools — Renaissance School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, School of Health Technology and Management, School of Nursing and School of Social Welfare — as well as Stony Brook University Hospital, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital, Stony Brook Children’s Hospital and more than 200 community-based healthcare settings throughout Suffolk County. Our health sciences schools work in tandem with our research and clinical care teams to deliver the best ideas in medicine to patients. As an academic medical center, we are all about ideas. Creating them. Nurturing them. Protecting them. Challenging them. Improving them. Teaching them to others. And most importantly of all, delivering them to patients and their families – sooner, smarter and better. An “idea” can be a new treatment protocol, best practices, a bright new researcher we’ve brought in from another institution, the convenience of an outpatient clinic, or simply a more user-friendly way to access our medical care. Ideas drive us, they thrive here, and we are committed to bringing more of them to our patients than anyone else.

Congratulations to our TWO September #DAISYAward Recipients, Nicole Sganga, RN, and Kevin DeJoie, RN, from #StonyBrook University Hospital's #SICU! Both were nominated by the daughter of a patient who expressed deep gratitude for the exceptional care and compassion they provided. Her mother had been in a car accident and required surgery, but she was living across the country and couldn't be there in person. Nicole stepped in, staying in constant communication and offering reassurance that her mother was in the hands of a team that truly cared for them both. Kevin was recognized for his heartfelt care and professionalism, which provided comfort to the patient and her family throughout their stay at #StonyBrook. His attention to detail and the quality of care he delivered eased the family's worries during this challenging time. "As I sit here looking at my mom, now sitting up and talking about the future, I know Kevin and Nicole played a huge role in her recovery." Thank you, Nicole and Kevin, for always going above and beyond for our patients and their families. #WeAreStonyBrookMedicine #HealthcareHeroes #Nursing

We're going to miss you, Donna! This week, we celebrated the retirement of our incredible Assistant Vice President of #Nursing for Surgical Services, Donna Hoffman! Donna started her career at #StonyBrook 40 years ago as a staff nurse. She later discovered her passion for #orthopaedic nursing, taking on progressive leadership positions, first as a nurse educator for the Orthopaedic Unit and soon after as #nurse manager. As she took her final walk through the doors of #StonyBrook University Hospital, colleagues, friends and family celebrated her accomplishments and gave her a well-deserved clap out. 👏 Thank you, Donna, for 40 amazing years! You will always be part of the Stony Brook Medicine family. Enjoy your #retirement! ❤️ #WeAreStonyBrookMedicine
