The annual Golden Hammers awards are open! Submit your project to be in the running at https://lnkd.in/e8bprQ7P These awards were started back in 2000 with a goal of honoring excellence in neighborhood revitalization projects throughout Greater Richmond. Historic Richmond and SFCD are partnering for a 7th year to host the awards program to recognize professionals and community members improving our neighborhoods through restoration, adaptive reuse, new construction, placemaking, and historic preservation. Categories include: 1. Best Restoration: Includes restoration by a homeowner, contractor, or developer. Includes historic tax credit projects. 2. Best Adaptive Reuse: Includes projects that were rehabilitated for a new use, multi-family residential and historic tax credit projects welcome. 3. Best New Construction: Includes neighborhood infill. 4. Best Residential: Single-family residential projects. and the one we're most passionate about... 5. Best Placemaking & Urban Design: Arts and culture projects, park and green-space projects, transportation and infrastructure projects, or other neighborhood enhancing features including large scale (i.e., parks, urban streetscapes, etc.) and small scale (i.e., community garden, grass roots programming, etc.).

On our 13th trip around the sun, we reflect on the impact of our work through low-cost design and assistance programs, Design Session and Community Visioning, and City Builders youth-centered programming. We are proud of our role in inspiring equitable community-driven design in the built environment through innovative programs and resources that engage the next generation of designers. Storefront for Community Design has come this far because of YOU! The support of volunteers, staff, board members, and the hundreds of community champions keep US inspired. Highland Grove Greening Community Event - Last week, Storefront for Community Design collaborated with Better Housing Coalition to lead a community engagement event to receive feedback and ideas from residents for elements in the development’s master plan that may include amenities, site features, and architectural components. Potential homebuyers, local residents, and local businesses were present. A big thank you to our dedicated staff members - Lynn McAteer, VP of Planning & Evaluations, Maria Tabacchi, Senior Development Associate, Kenneth Price, Housing Counselor (WORTH Initiative), and Ben Wong, RED intern, for representing Better Housing Coalition and providing their expertise at the event. We also want to recognize Groundwork RVA and Vanasse Hangen Brustlin (VHB). Groundwork was the curator of the event and VHB designed and shared the proposed Green Infrastructure Plan. #HighlandGroveGreening #RealEstateDevelopment #CommunityDesign #BetterHousingCoalition #CommunityEngagement #FeedbackEvent
