  • "Turning Belief Into Billions" -- SOFE Issue #002 In 2006, I had my first chance to create and produce a TV series about entrepreneurs. To secure the show, we needed to create an hour-long pilot, which meant finding a high-profile founder willing to be filmed. Fortunately, a friend introduced us to John Paul Dejoria, founder of Paul Mitchell and Patron Tequila. John Paul graciously allowed us to capture his story over three days for the pilot episode. His story epitomized the American entrepreneurial dream, providing a compelling foundation for the pilot that became CNBC's original primetime series 'American Made'. In this issue, you’ll learn about his story and explore: **How to make your story more compelling by studying his style. **Neuroscience insights on why emotional stories engage more of the brain **A thought-provoking video by Joe Rogan on being the hero Founder Story: John Paul DeJoria, Founder of Paul Mitchell John Paul’s parents divorced when he was two years old, and he lived with his mom in East Los Angeles in constant poverty. By the age of nine or ten, he was selling Christmas cards door-to-door and delivering newspapers to help his family make ends meet. By twelve, his mother could no longer support him, and he ended up in a foster home before eventually joining an LA street gang. Fortunately, he didn’t stay in the gang for long and decided to join the navy. After his service, he worked various jobs selling products door-to-door, from cleaning supplies to encyclopedias, before landing in the beauty industry, believing he could make a name for himself selling beauty products. John Paul excelled in his sales roles, but his success threatened others, leading to him being fired from every sales job he held. During these tough times, he often found himself homeless, living in his car or sleeping on friends’ couches, all while caring for his three-year-old son. • ⭐ SOFE Goes LIVE ⭐ After years of dreaming, planning, and refining, I’m beyond excited (and relieved!) to announce the release of my very first newsletter, SOFE! The newsletter is designed to help founders and business leaders learn how to create and tell great stories. This project has been in the making for over a decade, and after three intense months of finalizing the details, it’s finally ready to share with the world. A HUGE shout out to Baldomero Garza for helping me through the entire process and for managing the execution of this launch. If you need help with your content - I highly recommend Baldo. I first started talking to my long-time writing sensei Brett Randell about this over ten years ago (should have listened to my gut and launched it then, but oh well :-)), and now, I’m eager with anticipation and appreciation as I take this next step in on building out the Storytelling for Entrepreneurs brand. This isn’t just a newsletter for me—it’s part of my broader vision to build a legacy in entrepreneurial storytelling. I may not know exactly what that legacy will look like, but I’m confident this is part of that process. I’m so grateful for everyone who’s been a part of this journey so far, and I can’t wait to see where it takes us next. Thank you for being part of this blossoming new chapter. • 🚀 Giddy this morning as the first emails went out to announce my new SOFE newsletter is launching next week! Today we are sending out all the invitations and signups. Holy snikees --- Hard to be believe how many moving parts there are to make this happen. 6 weeks turned into 9 weeks on the prep side, but now it's ready. And of course, Murphy's Law kicked in and we already had one broken link based the fact the newsletter is not launched yet. A big shout-out to Baldomero Garza, my newsletter Sherpa, who has been instrumental in getting everything ready. It’s amazing to work with someone who brings so much experience and knowledge from helping other clients. Stay tuned for the launch, and thanks to everyone for the support! 💥 Happening TUE next week You can sign up the other link in the comments #NewsletterLaunch #Grateful #Teamwork #Founder #SOFE #Storytelling #FounderStorytelling

  • Such a joy to see two of the most inspiring and driven women I know, Ingrid Vanderveldt (CEO & Founder of Empowering a Billion Women) & Amy Cosper (Head of Content at Bizee powered by Incfile) come together on Amy's new podcast 'Get Bizee' -- this is a candid conversation of what it's truly like to lead, launch, & grow your business when things go from bad to worse. Most people cover up their mistakes and are afraid to be vulnerable, but these two women know that their is power in authenticity and strength in vulnerability. These women are perfect examples of how hard times shape great leaders. #Founder #FounderStories #Storytelling #GetBizee #Bizee #Entrepreneur https://lnkd.in/g9aBVF-m

  • This was one of my favorite startup discoveries at SXSW - the startup @Lotic.ai - in that they use your story to help ascertain your current health and develop a wellness plan for you based on the narratives woven into what you tell yourself, and what you tell the outside world. Fascinating how the power of story is woven to almost everything we do… Even AI. #austintx #storytelling #Healthy #wellness #AI #SXSW
