Your brain is your most powerful tool, especially regarding critical thinking and problem-solving. Here are eight ways to keep your mind sharp and enhance your cognitive abilities: Keep Learning New Things: Continuously challenge your brain by learning new skills or exploring unfamiliar topics. Lifelong learning keeps your mind agile and open to new ideas. Puzzles and Brain Games: Engage in crosswords, Sudoku, or memory games. These exercises stimulate brain function and improve cognitive skills. Music: Listening to or playing music can enhance brain function, boost creativity, and reduce stress—leading to clearer thinking. Hobbies and Passions: Invest time in activities you love. Pursuing hobbies can increase brain plasticity and help you think more creatively. Movies and Books (Fiction & Nonfiction): Expose yourself to different genres and stories. Fiction boosts imagination, while nonfiction sharpens your analytical thinking. Laughter: Never underestimate the power of humor. Laughter releases endorphins and reduces stress, keeping your brain healthy and ready to tackle challenges. Play: Engage in playful activities. Play enhances cognitive flexibility and problem-solving skills, whether it’s sports, games, or just having fun. Writing: Regular writing—journaling, blogging, or storytelling—strengthens your brain’s ability to organize thoughts, analyze ideas, and communicate effectively. Nurture your brain health with these activities to enhance your critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Your mind will thank you!

"I think about a tour I took a few years ago of a large retail company’s distribution center. The complex spanned miles and was incredible. At one point on the tour, we stopped where boxes were being loaded onto trucks for delivery to their stores. In passing, he pointed out how each box was placed in the truck in a certain way so it would be easier for the stores to unload them. He then pointed out how the contents of each box had been thoroughly packed to make it easier for the employees of the store to open the box and get each item. What struck me was the intentionality of each step of the process. By being thorough and anticipating needs, the team members in the warehouse were giving a gift to the team members in the store. When we choose to do things the right way, it is not only a gift in the present but also often a gift for the future." -Nathan Mellor, EdD, PCC For more information on Strata Leadership's Character Core magazine or to subscribe, visit HTTPs://strataleadership.com

Today, MidFirst Bank Leadership Academy Class VII tackled Course 4, focusing on teambuilding, led by Strata Leadership president Dr. Susan DeWoody. The session covered essential aspects of high-performing teams, including barriers to performance, effective communication, and the importance of commitment. We were honored to have Ken Clark, President of the Midland Mortgage Division of MidFirst Bank, join us to share lessons learned throughout his leadership journey, inspiring our participants. The class also collaborated on their community service project. To cap off the day, everyone enjoyed a fun teambuilding activity at Topgolf. What an inspiring day filled with growth and connection!
