Manager, Grassroots Marketing & Group Sales at Strathmore | Musician | Educator | Sphinx LEAD Fellow

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Tessitura Learning Conference and Convention (TLCC 2024) here in Washington D.C.! As a proud alumnus of the Tessitura Career Accelerator Program, it was a whirlwind first-time experience, full of success stories and shared wisdom, rooted in the dedication of so many arts organizations across the country. I learned about the many facets of this CRM that can help us build our audience bases and the ways in which we can gather and analyze data that can help arts organizations innovate their efforts. It was a meeting of the minds, and I am so thankful for my Strathmore team members Alaina Sadick Goss Jenn German Erin Phillips, CFRE Jordan W. Summer Thompson Alexis Lacey Chad Sands and Shana Gerber at Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts and to be a part of an organization and team that works to make sure the Arts are Ours. All of my gratitude to Kristen Olson and Jessica J. Johnson for their support through the Fellowship program, Andrew Recinos for getting to finally connect in person and his incredible opening plenary speech, and the opportunity to speak to Reneé Fleming again! I think I surprised her, since the last time we worked together I was in the orchestra when we performed Strauss’s Four Last Songs! #tlcc2024

During difficult times, we find ourselves searching for a moral voice to guide us out of darkness & despair. James Baldwin was that voice when our nation celebrated its bicentennial in 1976 & he published his book on film, "The Devil Finds Work." Now we reexamine it & how the powerful images of film shape a nation’s identity & perhaps prevent us from loving the stranger as well as ourselves. #StrathmoreEducation 🗓 9/26 at Eaton Workshop/Eaton DC with Ethelbert Miller. Part of our James Baldwin series. RSVP free/pay what you can: Strathmore.org/Baldwin Learn more about him in this great PBS NewsHour retrospective: https://lnkd.in/eUsrYzVg

A look at James Baldwin's enduring influence on art and activism

Creativity really is passion 🎨. This summer was just full of color! Last week, I completed my time as a Communications & Marketing Intern at Strathmore. I made some wonderful memories and met even more wonderful people! From the vibrant stories to the scenic outdoor concerts, each day had so much joy. I was constantly inspired by Strathmore’s dedication to support every artist who entered its doors, and I loved cherishing every detail of our campus through the narratives we told. With a love for immersive, multisensory art, I really enjoyed writing about Strathmore’s upcoming exhibit, Monuments, an outdoor installation celebrating local heroes by transforming trees into living sculptures. All my time spent speaking with artists, educators, and Strathmore staff members enriched each story and taught me something new. I also had the honor of interviewing Mama Naytch to publish a story about uplifting the art of drag and personal expression. From highlighting our instrumental tour through campus to uplifting local artists, there was always a new story to tell. Additionally, it was amazing to see the production of a magazine, from the brainstorming process to the final touches. I saw firsthand how much of a team effort it is to bring Strathmore’s initiatives to life. I’m excited to see the beautiful magazines once they come out! By developing stories, helping with social media copy, and learning how to communicate to specific audiences, I feel like I’ve really grown as a storyteller. Now, I have so much inspiration for future projects! There was no better way to see how the arts brought people together than our Live from the Lawn concerts. Rain or shine, so many people came out to enjoy some good music and company. Thank you Imelda Tecson for setting me up for an unforgettable concert series. The marketing tables were always bustling with excited audiences, and I even got to create some colorful graphics for our games and awesome prizes! Most importantly, the people there are so kind and loving. They encouraged me to explore new opportunities while having loads of fun. Thank you especially to PJ Feinstein and Holly Filipiak, MBA for being the best mentors ever since day one, and for having the best vibes ✨. In such a short amount of time, I’ve been able to deepen my love for writing about the arts while exploring advertising and social media as well! And to everyone on the Marketing & Communications team…I’ve learned so much, and I can’t wait to come back and visit!
