Great presentation on WAAM additive manufacturing, exploring the current industry codes and the additional engineering and testing that can be considered by Midstream Operators as part of their product qualification by Sara Henson at the GPA Midstream Association Convention! SES is happy to bring our experience to help with engineering and qualification testing needs. Learn more about these types of projects at https://lnkd.in/e7GKvDqV #GPAMidstream #AdditiveManufacturing #WAAM #Engineering #Innovation #MidstreamIndustry #2024GPAMidstreamConvention
I want to extend a big thank you to Ricky Seaver and the GPA Mechanical Integrity Committee for the opportunity to present at the GPA Midstream Convention. It was a pleasure discussing the exciting world of 3D WAAM additive manufacturing and diving into the current industry codes and the additional engineering and testing that can be considered by the Owner/Operators. We explored the potential applications for components like flanges, transition pipes, and valve bodies – all of which have significant implications in the midstream sector. Looking forward to more insightful discussions and collaborations in the future! #GPAMidstream #AdditiveManufacturing #WAAM #Engineering #Innovation #MidstreamIndustry #2024GPAMidstreamConvention

Last week I had the privilege of presenting at the Nuclear Plant Fatigue Applications (NPFA) workshop in Pittsburgh, PA. This event, co-hosted by the Electrical Power Research Institute (EPRI), Westinghouse Electric Company, and Structural Integrity Associates, serves as a forum for discussing developing solutions in the field of nuclear plant fatigue management. This session, titled "Overview of EPRI MRP-482 - Vibration Fatigue Handbook - Guidelines for Management of Vibration-Induced Fatigue" discussed the significant advancements over the vibration fatigue related sections of MRP-235, reflecting the latest in industry standards and safety innovations, in part, due to the collaborative efforts at Stress Engineering Services, Inc. We focused on a high-level overview of the handbook, identifying common vibration mechanisms in nuclear power plants and operator experience. Vibrational fatigue screening tools and measurement guidelines were also discussed, followed by vibration failure diagnosis, good design practices, and corrective action. We covered how utility engineers can understand a fuller picture of fatigue failure mechanisms posing a threat to various types of plant equipment, identify specific components and locations susceptible to each fatigue mechanism, take cost-effective measures to correct fatigue-related problems, provide techniques for avoiding problems in the future, and permit rapid response in the form of run/repair/replace actions when fatigue concerns arise. The knowledge exchanged at this event is invaluable, and it’s exciting to see how these new guidelines will enhance the capabilities of utility engineers, raising the safety and reliability of plant operations. Thank you Thomas Damiani for the opportunity to present our work, and thank you Jamie Oakman for taking the photo. #NPFA #EPRI #VibrationFailures #NuclearPlants #VibrationFatigue

Sulfide Stress Cracking in Supercritical Steel CO₂ Systems In this study published in AMPP: Association for Materials Protection and Performance CORROSION journal, the relevance of the established 0.05 psia H₂S partial pressure threshold for SSC is examined, particularly in scenarios without a free gas phase, such as in supercritical CO₂ environments. The research applies the principles of fugacity and phase concentration calculations to better understand these unique conditions. Authored by Suresh Divi, PhD, PE, PMP and Bruce Craig PhD, P.E., FNACE from Stress Engineering Services, Inc. with collaboration from experts at CanmetMATERIALS, this paper entitled "A Limited Evaluation of the Applicability of NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 H₂S Limits to Supercritical CO₂ Pipelines" considers conventional measurements of sulfide stress cracking (SSC) in dense phase CO₂ systems thresholds and introduces new scientific evaluations. Key Takeaways: • Reevaluation of the H₂S partial pressure threshold for SSC in supercritical CO₂. • Empirical testing on X80 steel to assess SSC occurrence at specified H₂S pressures. • Insights into the limitations of current standards when applied to supercritical CO₂ pipelines. This paper is a crucial read for professionals in the oil, gas, and pipeline industries, looking to enhance their understanding of material behavior under complex environmental conditions. For a deeper dive into our findings and their implications on industry standards, check out the full article in the AMPP Corrosion Journal: https://lnkd.in/g-cJEXp8 #SulfideStressCracking #MaterialsAnalysis #PipelineAnalysis #Pipelines #SteelTesting #StressAnalysis #SSC
