  • Our Pipeline Integrity Compliance Solutions (PICS) group at Structural Integrity is working closely with the PRCI - Pipeline Research Council International group to help improve In-Line Inspection (ILI) capabilities to address critical pipeline integrity threats, Hard Spot manufacturing defects, industry performance, advance insights regarding hard spots, and determine the appropriate repair methodologies. Hard spots are prevalent in piping produced by certain manufacturers and within certain vintages and are believed to be attributed to inadequate quality control in the steelmaking, pipe-rolling, and welding process. Over time, when in specific environmental conditions, cracking can initiate in the hard spots, creating a significant hazard.  SI was selected to provide support based on a combination of our expertise and demonstrated capabilities in field assessment, engineering analysis, and integrity management. Check out the News and Views article below to learn more about how SI can assist with these important PRCI integrity and inspection initiatives, ILI technology, and hard spot needs. https://lnkd.in/dJs-B_bG #PoweredByTandT  #PipelineIntegrityResearchCouncil  #ILITechnology  #HardSpots  #PipelineIntegrity  #NewsAndViews  #SINews

At Structural Integrity Associates, Inc. (SIA), we take immense pride in our staff’s extensive expertise and their continuous push toward innovative solutions. Our Consultant, Erick Ritter, is a great example of the dedication our staff has to their industries, as shown through his receipt of an ASME Certificate of Appreciation for Co-Authoring the Outstanding Technical Paper from an Early Career Engineer at the 2024 Pressure Vessels & Piping Conference. The award was presented by Doug Scarth, PVP Division Advisor, and Ravi Baliga, PVP Honors & Awards Chair. The paper, titled “Case Study on the Affect of Hydrogen on Ground Storage Tanks Designed to ASME Section VIII,” demonstrates a comparison of the impact hydrogen can have on the fatigue life of storage vessels, and a relative comparison of life when designed to the various Divisions of ASME Section VIII Pressure Vessel Code. ASME Early Career Certificates of Appreciation are given to those who have made outstanding contributions to pressure vessel and piping engineering through research, practice, teaching, and service to the industry over time. Multiple committees recommend nominations, which are reviewed by the Honors Committee and submitted to the Executive Committee for final approval. We are excited about Mr. Ritter’s highly esteemed recognition and appreciate having him on our team. Congratulations, Mr. Ritter! #PoweredByTandT #ASMEPVP #EarlyCareerCertificateofAppreciation #Engineering #SINews

  • The power generation industry has seen an increasing trend of failures and damage detected in high-energy piping tee fittings and the associated girth welds in systems made from grade 91 material (and grades 22 and 92). Traditional inspection techniques have focused primarily on the girth welds, causing damage in the crotch region that may be improperly characterized or even undetected. Evidence of significant creep damage has been detected in components with as few as 35,000 operating hours exposed to normal/design conditions. Large variations in thickness and diameter and differences in crotch profiles can exist even among similarly sized tee fittings, leading to uncertainty when planning inspections and evaluating findings across a system, plant, or fleet. Given the potential for rapid progression of damage and the lack of definitive guidance on crotch inspection methods, previously established reinspection intervals may be unreliable. SI strongly recommends baseline inspections on all tees operating in the creep regime to comprehensively document their serviceability risk and develop an informed lifecycle management plan. SI, with our extensive expertise in inspecting and analyzing tee fittings and girth welds, is the premiere partner for utilities desiring to minimize their operational risks. Check out our News & Views edition 54 article to learn more about how you can trust SI to provide the most effective and reliable inspection methods. https://lnkd.in/eQbptWxM #PoweredByTandT #HighEnergyPiping #GirthWelds #Tees

Ongoing advances in structural and geotechnical engineering and increasing expectations for fidelity and refinement of seismic analysis models have resulted in a computational bottleneck in the design and evaluation of critical infrastructure. The traditional Soil Structure Interaction (SSI) framework, System for Analysis of Soil Structure Interaction (SASSI), is a trusted analysis approach with decades of precedence. Our proprietary SSI analysis software, SC-SASSI, incorporates modern enhanced solution algorithms that drastically reduce analysis run-time.  In his article, Julio A. Garcia, P.E. demonstrates the practical benefits of SC-SASSI and High-Performance Computing, which result in improved accuracy, reduced uncertainty, and shorter computational times. Examples include:  - Structure-Soil-Structure Interactions (SSSI)  - Probabilistic SSI Analysis  - Ground Motion Incoherence  - Industrial Facilities on Pile Foundations To learn more about how SI is advancing the science of utilizing high-performance computing in the critical infrastructure industry, check out our article in the News & Views 54th edition below.     https://lnkd.in/eRzWKTwJ #PoweredByTandT #NewsAndViews #HighPerformanceComputing #SINEWS
