We had the pleasure of hosting the project team for Florida's T3 FAT Village mass timber office at our headquarters last week! The building is Florida's first major mass timber development. Team members from Hines, The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, DLR Group, and Magnusson Klemencic Associates toured our facilities, seeing the project's dowel-laminated timber floor/roof panels produced in real-time. The project's timber install starts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida early next year. It was encouraging for our teams to put a face to the name of so many folks we have been collaborating with - including several members from the past 4 T3 offices we have completed in the past decade! Our teams are responsible for engineering, fabrication, procurement, and erection of the complete timber/steel superstructure.

The mass timber superstructure at Washington County's West Central Service Center is moving along! The 31,000 sqft, $30M facility features an open concept design by Alliiance that utilizes Glulam framing supporting dowel-laminated timber floor and roof panels, with beams spanning up to 54 feet over the central double-height atrium space. Featuring some pretty complex framing, the Center took careful planning and coordination by our Operations team - and we're excited to see the site install progress. Senior Structural Engineer at StructureCraft | P.Eng., Ph.D.

Last week I had a chance to present at the IABSE - International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering Congress in #CostaRica at IABSE Congress 2024. I presented on one of our recent projects at StructureCraft - the new Johns Hopkins Student Center. Our contribution highlighted the importance of thoughtful timber connection detailing, championing the master builder spirit to realize this one-of-a kind building! It was also a great opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and make new connections.

We recently marked a major construction milestone at One Bridgeland Green, Houston’s first mass timber office, with the raising of its first timber shear wall. Located within Bridgeland’s emerging 925-acre urban district, One Bridgeland Green introduces the first office development in Bridgeland Central and demonstrates our commitment to innovation and a more sustainable future. Bridgeland's 53-foot cross-laminated timber shear walls have gone vertical! Our team has been carefully planning the sequencing and logistics behind these massive 53ft/16.2m lifts for months and we all breathed a sigh of relief when the first one went up smoothly. The 58,000 sqft mass timber office utilizes cross-laminated timber (CLT) shear walls for the lateral system, forming the building’s central core and resisting the significant wind loads common in the Gulf Coast region. Nashville's largest mass timber offices were toured yesterday as part of the Advancing Mass Timber Construction conference! Our friends from Anecdote Architectural Experiences led the 1030 Music Row tour, with Ivan Vanchev, AIA explaining the architectural inspiration behind the 120,000 sqft office hosting some of Nashville's best musical talent. Leif Johnson and Gerald Epp Jr. led the Nashville Warehouse Company tour, focusing on how we optimized the structure with a purlin-beam system, economizing on material and simplifying connections while also providing chases for the mechanical ducts. #MassTimber #StructuralEngineering #Nashville

Leif Johnson and Gerald Epp Jr. are in Nashville this week for the Advancing Mass Timber Construction Conference! We're joining friends from across the industry to tour and present on several of our local projects. Tomorrow (September 24), Leif will present our all-wood joint solution for Kansas University's Makers' KUbe, reviewing how we combined modern-day technology with traditional craftsmanship to develop efficient and cost-effective all-wood structural systems. We are also touring two of our projects in town today - 1030 Music Row with Anecdote Architectural Experiences / Panattoni Development Company and Nashville Warehouse Company with AJ Capital Partners / Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture. From a pretty empty construction site to the first columns being erected to a nice looking #DLT landed over a spruce glulam frame. StructureCraft is currently on site in Woodbury, Minnesota to erect the new service center after the go ahead from Washington County. After the design phase is always nice seeing parts clicking together smoothly. For more updates stay tuned! Related post also at: Alliiance, Kraus-Anderson #StructureCraft #MassTimber
