About us
Located in downtown Long Beach and Los Angeles California, Studio One Eleven is an integrated practice of architecture, landscape, and urban design dedicated to creating vibrant communities. From master plans to individual buildings, each endeavor aims at making a more humane and sustainable urban whole. We believe that the purpose of architecture is the making of the City. From the geography of the region to the disposition of blocks and buildings, every urban component has an interdependent relationship with all others. We view every project as an opportunity to physically enhance the urban context that sustains it. In contrast to an 'architecture of time', ours is an 'architecture of place'. Our designs are not predicated by a singular language, but are inspired through the careful assessment of the history, climate, culture and context of the place where they stand. We believe that the best way to improve the future of a place is to understand its past, patterns and precedents.

#parkingday2024 in Bologna with Museo Spazio Pubblico, Bela Urbanism + Design and PlacemakingUS was a special one. Happy to represent studio one eleven with Jorge R Zapata !
Four years ago, on 4th October 2020, I officially opened the first-ever parklet in the city of Bologna, which I designed and implemented for City Space Architecture as part of the project A-Place, co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, in front of our Museo Spazio Pubblico. The parklet was a response to the physical distancing imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, a temporary intervention that lasted 10 months. Two weeks ago, on 18-20 September, I welcomed a group of international practitioners in Bologna for the first-ever International Parklet Symposium, which I organized with John Bela, Ryan Smolar, Robin Abad Ocubillo, and Ilaria Salvadori. During the symposium, we celebrated Park(ing) Day and made another parklet just for one day! Yes we did it again! and it was such a nice moment and at the same time a very bold initiative to celebrate public space. Thanks to Shruti Shankar, AICP, Dhanya Rajagopal, Justin Hyatt, Carolyn Sponza, Shaden Al Galaly, Akitaka Suzuki, Jorge R Zapata, Mohammad Mohammadi, Quentin Stevens, Simone Garagnani, Andrea Steglich, Egle Pilipaviciute and all participants of the two-day symposium (online and in person) from Australia, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Nigeria, Spain, Japan, Austria, United Kingdom, Italy, Brazil, Romania, Lebanon, United States, Canada, Mexico, Netherlands, Germany, and Slovenia. Read more about the symposium here: https://lnkd.in/dhq6ktZF and stay tuned for great updates we will share soon, including a special issue of The Journal of Public Space on parklets, temporary uses, and co-creation of public space that we will publish in 2025. The symposium was promoted by Bela Urbanism + Design, City Space Architecture, Museo Spazio Pubblico and PlacemakingUS with the patronage of Culture Commission, Chamber of Deputies of the Italian State Government, US Embassy in Rome, Emilia-Romagna Region, Municipality of Bologna, on the occasion of the EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK. We're excited to share that The Journey, our latest affordable housing project in collaboration with Venice Community Housing, is featured in Frances Anderton’s newest article at Friends Of Residential Treasures: Los Angeles Awesome and Affordable project. This 40-unit supportive housing complex on Lincoln Boulevard is dedicated to transitional-aged youth (18-24) who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Built above the Safe Place for Youth (SPY) center, The Journey offers much-needed stability and community through thoughtfully designed terraced levels, shared spaces, and plenty of natural light. We're proud to see this project making an impact and helping young people on their path forward. This week, we celebrated the ribbon-cutting of our Oak View Project, a transformative Neighborhood Beautification initiative in Huntington Beach. Through close collaboration with the community, city officials, and a local artist, we honored the rich culture and history of the neighborhood by incorporating vibrant murals and new signage that reflect its unique identity. The project also prioritized safety and walkability by installing traffic-calming bulbouts and pedestrian-friendly crosswalks, creating a safer, more connected environment. Additionally, the integration of stormwater management solutions underscores our commitment to sustainability, helping manage runoff while improving environmental health. This project reflects our ongoing dedication to building vibrant, sustainable, and resilient communities. #landscapearchitecture #architecture #oakview #huntingtonbeach https://lnkd.in/g8kvGkfs

Studio One Eleven on the move this week.
Just wrapped up three jam-packed days in Detroit, where I had the pleasure of experiencing the incredible work of two brilliant women from Design Core Detroit as part of Detroit Month of Design (Kiana Wenzell and Bonnie Fahoome). So much to see and explore! Detroit truly is a city of design, innovation, and resilience, and it's exciting to witness the energy and talent that drives this community. Looking forward to future collaborations! #DetroitMonthofDesign #CityOfDesign #DesignCoreDetroit
