Populus, our 265-room hotel in Denver, is now open for guests! Situated on a prominent site that connects civic, arts, and commercial districts, Populus opens itself up to the city and the Rocky Mountains beyond, positioning itself to become a new downtown social center. Featuring a series of distinctive windows whose geometry is informed by characteristic patterns found on native Aspen trees (Populus tremuloides), each window is designed to evoke the dark, eye-shaped marks left behind on the bark of the trees, which shed their lower branches as they grow. The hotel, operated by Aparium Hotel Group, offers guests immersive views of the nearby State Capitol, Civic Center Park, and the Rocky Mountains. Windows in select rooms feature built-in seating, providing occupiable spaces where guests can feel closer to nature. We hope you visit the next time you’re in Denver! Snøhetta had the fortune to collaborate with an amazing and creative team of individuals from HDR and Superbloom to imagine a future that weaves together Cherry Creek & Speer Boulevard for the City and County of Denver. Thank you to ASLA Colorado for your recognition of this ambitious endeavor and I hope we get to see it move forward!
Our team is honored to win an ASLA Colorado award for the Cherry Creek and Speer Boulevard Vision and Feasibility study. This was an amazing partnership between HDR, Snøhetta and Superbloom with the City and County of Denver to envision a nature-based solution that creates a healthier creek, activated and accessible new park spaces, new mixed use development and housing opportunities and a multi-modal corridor that prioritizes moving people vs moving cars. Congrats, team!
