Herminio Gomez is a Crew Leader at Decorative Concrete Resurfacing in St. Louis Missouri. Here are his thoughts about Hispanic Heritage Month: I take pride in my Mexican heritage, which taught me the importance of family and hard work. Growing up, we raised our own food by hand, which was tough but rewarding. Things changed when I bought my mom a tractor five years ago. At DCR, my work ethic helped me rise through the ranks. I love the company’s family-like environment and enjoy mentoring my coworkers, encouraging them to set life goals. While I enjoy celebrating Cinco de Mayo with family and friends, my favorite holiday is Día de Muertos, when we honor our deceased loved ones. In 2003, my brother invited me to the U.S. from Oaxaca, Mexico, to work at DCR in St. Louis. After eight months, our boss Lisa saw my potential and encouraged me to become a crew leader. I learned new skills, took English classes, and by 2004, I was ready. In 2005, I won the "most square footage installed" award, and in 2007, I became production manager while still leading my own jobs. In 2023, I earned the top crew leader and greatest volume increase awards. My goal is to work hard, make good money, and eventually retire in Mexico. "Since I started working at Decorative Concrete Resurfacing they have always paid on a piece rate system which rewards people that work hard and smart. My advice to young people starting out working with Sundek is too learn as much as you can, work as smart and quickly as you can, but always put down a quality installation. The Sundek family has molded and shaped many young men. I personally have been able to accomplish so much more being motivated by this pay system and a local company that allowed me to grow and have new challenges."

Manuel "Manny" Nunez is the Production Manager for SUNDEK of Washington. Here are his thoughts about Hispanic Heritage Month: “To me, Hispanic heritage signifies a deep family connection, like our family at SUNDEK of Washington. Most of us know each other from the same ranch in Mexico where we grew up. I cherish traditions like family gatherings, parties or just simply visiting each other on the weekends and cooking out. I've been with Sundek for about 18 years. Lupe got me into Sundek by helping them when they needed help until a spot was open. From there I've been growing every day. I started from the bucket as a helper and then to a Crew Leader. Now I'm in a Production Manager role and I'm still learning to navigate day by day. Every young Hispanic that comes into Sundek I tell them to learn fast and always push forward. You will have your ups and downs but learning this art is not easy. To be a successful Sundeker you will learn by trial and error and how you fix it or learn from that mistake that makes you great."

Maryori Gomez is the Human Resources Generalist for Sundek. Her thoughts about Hispanic Heritage Month: "Hispanic heritage means celebrating our traditions and staying connected to our roots. As a proud Honduran, my heritage deeply influences my values and community spirit. I cherish traditions like family gatherings, La Feria Juniana, and Semana Santa for the way they bring us together, honor our culture, and reflect what we hold dear. I've been part of the honorable SUNDEK team since March 27, 2023, and it's been an incredibly rewarding year and a half. As a Human Resources Generalist, I truly enjoy my role because it allows me to connect with our diverse and supportive team. SUNDEK has become very meaningful to me, and I take great pride in contributing to our united, multicultural environment. To young Hispanics starting their careers at Sundek. Your unique perspective is a big asset, so bring your ideas and stay curious. Build strong relationships with your team, set clear career goals, and work with your manager to achieve them. Embrace challenges with enthusiasm and communicate openly to build trust. Take feedback as a chance to improve and keep a positive attitude. We’re excited to have you with us and can’t wait to see what you’ll accomplish!"
