On July 30, 2024, Sunnybrook celebrated the groundbreaking of 'Renasant Bank Cottage', the sixth residential campus property serving adolescent youth ages 14-21. The ceremony, hosted in partnership with the City of Ridgeland and Ridgeland Chamber of Commerce, took place on Sunnybrook's campus in Ridgeland at the future site of the resident home sponsored by Renasant Bank. Meet Kenny Spansel, Sunnybrook’s licensed counselor. Kenny has a M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy and Counseling and a M.A. in Biblical Studies from Reformed Theological Seminary. Kenny also has 8 years of experience in trauma-informed care and counseling. Older youth leaving the foster care system or preparing to leave their parents often struggle to launch successfully. Our transitional programs help them prepare for a life of sustainability once they leave Sunnybrook. They learn how to manage their lives and their money and develop saving habits for long-term goals. One hundred percent of our residents receive financial literacy training, compared to 18% of youth in Mississippi foster care. We are growing! On Oct. 3 we held a ribbon cutting ceremony to open the newly expanded offices for our incredible Program staff. The expanded space, which is adjacent to both the Education and Student Centers, means just that! More space for more services!
