✨ Young Minds, Big Insights: GLI TRENDS ✨ A big thank you to everyone who participated in our webinar on August 13, 2024, 🚀Young Minds Big Insights: 2024 Supivaa Intern Cohort! 🚀 Your presence and engagement were invaluable.    During the webinar, our 2024 Intern Cohort shared their insights from their internship on the importance of Gender-Lens Investing (GLI) in Africa and the potential benefits for the continent. Most importantly, the presentation focused on how GLI can unlock new opportunities for both financial gains and positive social impact through sectors like Agriculture, Tech Health, Healthcare, and climate change solutions. During the session, we are enthused that we had some expert audience members who were also able to share some of the work they’re doing. This included: Jael Amati (AECF): Jael shared details on AECF's impact investing efforts, highlighting their five investing-in-women programs in 2022 across South Sudan, Kenya, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, and Benin. These initiatives aim for at least 5% women-owned portfolio companies by year-end, with AECF providing support in gender policy development and addressing gender-based issues. Obama Joseph (Growth Africa): Obama Joseph discussed a significant funding gap in high-growth firms, noting only 1% are women-led. Systemic Innovation and GrowthAfrica's data insight program seeks to bridge collaboration gaps among ecosystem partners by uniting stakeholders around venture and ecosystem data. This effort aims to enhance decision-making processes and, in turn, empower more women founders across various industries. Aysha Dawood (CAFIID): Aysha recognized the diverse research and work of interns, she also spoke about the inclusivity of Canada Forum for Impact Investment and Development (CAFIID)'s GLI community. Lastly, she expressed excitement about featuring interns' work on the Canada Forum for Impact Investment and Development (CAFIID) website and highlighted the valuable GLI resources available on their site. 🌟 Young Minds, Big Insights: GLI Trends 🌟 We’re pleased to share that Supivaa’s first edition of the "Young Minds, Big Insights: GLI Trends" webinar on August 13, 2024 kicked off with a bang! Showcasing the insights and the hard work of the summer interns hailing from across the continent, the webinar uncovered some of the latest trends on Gender-Lens Investing (GLI) in Africa. This summer’s cohort was made up of Daizy Tlailana, Isher Bansal, Sidiki Kamara, Makuochukwu Okeke, and Nar Lo Dia who shared some compelling figures on the state of GLI in Africa.  This includes:  USD 42B.  This is the funding gap for female entrepreneurs in sub-Saharan Africa.  An increase of  $326 billion by 2025 if this funding gap is addressed.  Africa's readiness to attract more GLI funding, thanks to its Gender Parity Score of 68.2%, which surpasses that of Southern Asia and Middle Eastern countries. At Supivaa, our interns are empowered to gain hands-on experience in fields such as Gender Lens Investing (GLI), impact investment, sustainable growth, and innovation.
