Inspiring choices that lead to a healthy, equitable, and vibrant community for generations to come.
About us
Sustain Charlotte is a community-based 501(c)3 nonprofit advocating for smart land use and transportation choices. Our mission is to inspire choices that lead to a healthy, equitable, and vibrant community for generations to come. We advocate for local solutions that reduce our impact on the climate, advance racial equity, and support residents’ health and wellness. We believe that the best way to tackle the challenges of the Charlotte region’s rapid population growth is by focusing on how we grow. That is why we advocate for dependable public transit, a connected greenway system, bicycle and sidewalk networks, and compact, efficient, well-planned development to preserve more green space and reduce our dependency on cars. We also engage with our neighborhoods, nonprofit partners, businesses, the media, and elected officials to guide conversations, and strive to keep residents informed through community programs, free educational content, and public events so that they can feel empowered to advocate for public policy changes critical to realizing our vision of a livable community for generations to come. Learn more about how Sustain Charlotte works to reduce climate-polluting emissions, promote racial equity, and improve health in our community at SustainCharlotte.org.

🙏 Thanks to Around the Crown 10K for their $7,500 donation through their runners, partners, and proceeds! 👟 Around the Crown is one of our Platinum Partners, and we’re so grateful for their support. We’re a beneficiary of the 10K each year, so we know this support comes from the community, too! We’re inspired each year by the ways Around the Crown gives back to our area. 🌱 We also want to highlight their sustainability efforts when putting on one of Charlotte’s biggest annual events. Those include a panel discussion with our team, a CATS partnership for runners, cupless water stops, and a partnership with Charlotte-based Recover Brands, which makes locally sourced, recycled T-shirts. 💚 Thanks again, all you Around the Crown runners and partners!

✨ Today, we celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day by recognizing the rich history, vibrant cultures, and lasting contributions of Indigenous communities. 💜 The Carolinas are home to Indigenous people whose traditions and resilience shape our present and future. Let’s honor their stories — not just today, but every day — by learning, listening, and supporting Indigenous voices. 🟠 Take a moment to reflect on whose land you stand on and explore ways to uplift Indigenous communities near you.

💚 We LOVE this op-ed in Queen City Nerve by Rebekah Whilden! It perfectly explains why it's so important that we reduce our dependence on cars: https://lnkd.in/g-eyBXJg 📢 "Investment in public transportation and bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure is essential for our community. It drives economic growth and opportunity by connecting people to jobs. It’s also impossible to address the climate crisis without expanding these options."
