We are incredibly grateful to everyone who participated in SNAP x 5 Fest last month! 🙏 With support from the City of Austin’s Public Health Department, SFC Farmers' Markets hosted a first-of-its-kind #FoodAccess event, where we multiplied shoppers' SNAP benefits by 5 at both the Downtown and Sunset Valley markets. This allowed families to bring home more fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables while supporting local farmers. The impact was significant: 50% of Pedernales River Farm's sales at Sunset Valley came from SNAP purchases, and SFC vendors collectively earned nearly $2,000 in SNAP sales. This not only provided access to nutritious food for our community but also increased revenue for local farmers, contributing to a more sustainable and equitable food system. By choosing to spend benefits at SFC Farmers' Markets, shoppers are nourishing their families and supporting small-scale farmers who are dedicated to sustainable land stewardship. Together, we are #TransformingTheFoodSystem. Thank you for helping us make fresh, local food accessible for all! #SustainableFoodCenter #FoodAccess #SNAP #FarmersMarket #Sustainability #PublicHealth #LocalFood #CommunityImpact #Austin #SupportLocal

Several other SFC staff also contributed as issue area experts. How You Can Help: 📲 Email or call your council member to show your support for the plan, especially Item 20 (plan adoption) and Item 26, proposed by Council Member Vanessa Fuentes , which identifies resources for implementing the plan. 📣 Spread the word!
