♻️ Trash Talk Thursday: Revolutionizing Mattress Recycling! 🛏️ Big news in the world of waste management! Researchers at Aarhus University have discovered a groundbreaking method to recycle polyurethane foam from items like mattresses. 🧪 Polyurethane (PUR) is everywhere—in mattresses, insulation, cars, and more. But most of it ends up in landfills or gets incinerated, contributing to pollution and waste. That’s why this new method is such a game-changer! By using succinic acid, the team can break down PUR foam and separate its components, polyol and isocyanate, in a single step. This means we can now recover up to 82% of the original material, ready to be reused in new products! 🌍 Why it matters: This method could help reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and make recycled materials more affordable and sustainable. But there’s still work to be done to bring this innovation to everyday use, especially in handling consumer waste.
