Key leader to know: The City and County of Honolulu, #Hawaii, has named Ben Sullivan to succeed Matthew Gonser as executive director and chief resilience officer, working within Honolulu’s Office of #ClimateChange, #Sustainability and Resiliency (CCSR). Gonser exited to take a similar position in Los Angeles, California. Funding Plan - Energy Grid Modernization: NextEra Energy, Inc. plans to raise $1.5 billion through the sale of equity units to fund new projects, the electric utility said. 4. M&A - Managed IT Services: Academia, a sustainable IT service provider in the United Kingdom, has acquired Smartdesc - charity IT specialists -- an IT service provider focused on the #nonprofit sector. M&A - Data Centers: Investment firm DigitalBridge has acquired Yondr Group, a global developer and operator of sustainable #hyperscale #datacenters. The deal is expected to close in early 2025. M&A - Data Centers: Investment firm Cordiant Digital Infrastructure plans to invest €92.3 million in Belgian data centre provider Datacenter United (DCU) and the data centre business of Proximus Group. Diminished CSO Role?: HSBC has dropped its chief sustainability officer from its decision-making executive board, Reuters reported, sparking concern it could become the latest bank to row back on its climate commitments. 2. Executive Transition - Circular IT Services: Stone Technologies, owned by Converge Technology Solutions since 2022, has named Tim Westbrook to succeed Simon Harbridge as the business unit's leader. It sounds like Stone Technologies will now be known as Converge UK. The business unit focuses on a sustainable and circular approach to IT services. 3. Executive Leadership - IT Asset Disposal (ITAD) and E-Waste Reduction: Recycle Global Exchange (RGX) (RGX) has hired Capital Growth Partners veteran Rich Bulger as chief circularity officer (CCO). Bulger "will ensure that circularity is fully integrated into RGX’s platform design and business models, guiding corporate customers to transition from traditional linear "take-make-dispose" paradigms toward more profitable, sustainable circular solutions.," the company said. 4. Partner of the Year - IT Services: For the second consecutive year, Cisco has named Logicalis as its global sustainability partner of the year. Key Logicalis focus areas include circular IT solutions, sustainable network transformation, #smartbuildings and sustainable #managedservices. #MSP 5. Partner Program - IT Solutions and Services: #Cisco plans to overhaul its partner program to help partners position their customers to "power #AI workloads anywhere, and keep their organizations secure, resilient, and high-performing." Much of the #Cisco360 #PartnerProgram announcement focused on AI, #security and networking. The company did not mention #energymanagement or sustainability in the launch statement. 6. Partner Program - Travel and Tourism: Booking.com has boosted its partner program with more sustainability components. 7. Amazon - Nuclear Power: Amazon has signed a nuclear power agreement with Energy Northwest. The deal, focused on the state of Washington, will enable the development of four #SMRs (small modular reactors), the company said. 8. Generative AI and E-Waste: The shift to AI-driven devices could trigger massive #smartphone #ewaste, according to a paper published in the journal Nature. 9. Generative AI and Water Consumption: Power demand for artificial intelligence (AI) applications is straining U.S. water supplies, J.P. Morgan said. 10. Business Focus, Scope and Scale: Caddick Developments, founded in 1979, is based in Wetherby, Yorkshire, England. The family-run business, which is privately owned, specializes in the acquisition, development, construction and management of commercial, residential and retail projects across the United Kingdom. 2. Sustainability Strategy: Caddick is striving to be a #netzero business by 2040. The company's ESG strategy, known as Places for Life, surfaced in 2023. 3. Jessica Herman's Professional Experience, New Role: Herman previously was associate sustainability director at JustOne UK, a consultancy. Earlier, she was senior sustainability advisor at commercial real estate investment firm JLL. 4. Jessica Herman's Responsibilities: At Caddick, the company said, Herman will work with "senior leaders who form part of its ESG Taskforce and lead governance of the Places for Life strategy. She will also work with colleagues across the four Places for Life working groups who are driving sustainability progress across all Caddick teams, while supporting the business’ wider purpose to create exceptional places and communities where people thrive." Three Mile Island - Regulatory Discussions: U.S. nuclear regulators kicked off a long-winding process to consider Constellation Energy's unprecedented plans to restart its retired #ThreeMileIsland nuclear power plant, Reuters reported. 2. Three Mile Island - Potential Restore Costs: The effort to restore Unit 1 at Three Mile Island is expected to take four years, at least $1.6 billion, and thousands of workers to complete the unprecedented task of restarting a retired nuclear plant, Reuters reported. Constellation Energy wants to restart the plant, which Microsoft will leverage for energy. 3. Nuclear Energy - Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Doubts: #SMRs are not economically feasible, NextEra Energy, Inc. CEO John Ketchum said during the energy company's earnings call. 4. Potential M&A: Ubitus K.K., a cloud services company backed by NVIDIA, is looking to acquire land to build a #datacenter in Kyoto, Shimane, or a prefecture in Japan’s southern island of Kyushu, owing to the availability of nuclear power in the region, Bloomberg reported and #SeekingAlpha recapped. 5. Green Data Centers: Spending on green #datacenter technology will reach $272.2 billion by 2032, up from $62.9 billion in 2023, according to #SNSInsider. That's an anticipated 17.7% compound annual growth rate (CAGR), the researcher noted. 2. Microsoft Copilot Doubts: #MicrosoftCopilot, the company's #AI chatbot technology, is facing product quality and customer value question marks, #SeekingAlpha reported. 3. Consulting - Saudi Arabia: @#SadaImpact, a a consultancy specializing in social impact and #sustainability, has launched operations in Saudi Arabia. 4. Partnership - Accounting and ESG Skills: KPMG in Singapore and the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) have launched a training program that empowers accountants with #ESG skills, the organizations said. 5. Partnership - Marine Technology and Carbon Removal Services: In a deal with Microsoft, Ebb Carbon has vowed to remove up to 350,000 tonnes of CO2 over the next 10 years. Investment - Sustainable Mobility: KKR plans to acquire 25% of Enilive, Eni’s sustainable mobility company. The deal's value: €2.94 billion (USD$3.2 billion) -- which values Enilive at $12.8 billion, ESG Today reported. 9. Funding - Maritime Services: Carbon Ridge has raised $9.5 million in a funding. The company develops a "low cost" modular carbon capture solution to help decarbonize the maritime shipping sector. Crosscut Ventures and Western Technology Investment(WTI) led the round. 10. Funding - Storm Response Solutions: S2G Ventures has invested $35 million in Urbint, a provider of disaster response software for utilities and energy companies. Research - ITAD Market Growth Forecast: Two research firms predict rapid growth for the IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) market. But their forecasts contain vastly different financial figures. For instance: A. Allied Market Research predicts the global #ITAD market will reach $57.4 billion by 2032 -- essentially an 11.5% CAGR (compound annual growth rate). B. #SNSInsider Research predicts the global ITAD market will reach $40.9 billion by 2032, which represents a 9.3% CAGR according to SNS's financial modeling. 2. Research: The environmental #sustainability market will shift focus and priorities from regulations to efficiency and savings in 2025, Forrester Research predicted. 3. Executive Leadership - Financial Services: MSCI Inc. has hired Richard Mattison as head of #ESG and Climate. The role is designed to "empower investors to remain at the forefront of sustainable investing." Mattison previously was president of S&P Global’s sustainability unit. Earlier he was CEO of Trucost Plc, a climate analytics company that S&P Global acquired in 2016. 4. EV Chargers - Government Contract: VERDEK™ has won a three-year contract to deploy ChargePoint #EVchargers in the state of California. 5. AI Lawsuits: Perplexity, in a blog, said it intends to defend itself against a #GenerativeAI lawsuit filed by The Wall Street Journal and the New York Post. 6. Investment - Solar Energy Projects: Blackstone has invested $288 million in Pine Gate Renewables. The money will support six Pinegate #solarenergy projects. 7. U.S. Government - ESG Software: IBM Envizi -- an ESG software suite -- received #Fedramp authorization. That means Envizi software suite is available to U.S. federal agencies on the FedRAMP Marketplace.
