About us
The Green Transition Initiative (GTI) is a joint initiative between the Embassy of Sweden in Washington DC, Business Sweden, the Swedish Energy Agency, and Sweden’s innovation agency Vinnova. The objectives are to position Sweden as a key partner to the United States in its climate transition, connect Swedish and U.S. stakeholders within the green energy ecosystem, and to leverage opportunities in sectors such as electromobility, renewable energy, sustainable industry, and green buildings. By doing so, the initiative aims to contribute to reduced global emissions as well as increased bilateral research and development (R&D) cooperation, trade, and investments between Sweden and the United States. Key values include collaboration, innovation, and sustainability.

🌍 Will the election mean a Shifting Landscape for Green Tech in the U.S.? The Inflation Reduction Act has unlocked $370 billion in incentives for renewable energy, energy efficiency, and electrification, creating unprecedented opportunities for green tech. However, recent developments suggest a slowdown as the industry awaits the outcome of the U.S. presidential election. Yet, regardless of the outcome, there will be opportunities on the state and city levels to drive the green transition. At the Sweden-US Green Transition Initiative, we see remarkable interest from Swedish companies ready to expand into the U.S. market, knowing the potential for impactful collaboration across borders. If you are interested in the US market, contact us at GTI or Business Sweden for support. 🔗 Read more about this in the article below. Linda Andrén, Executive Director, Sweden-US Green Transition Initiative, is interviewed about the election and potential paths forward for transatlantic green tech partnerships (in Swedish). #greentransition

🌍 Building Decarbonization, Electrification, and Energy Efficiency Roundtable: Insights from San Francisco 🌱 Sweden-US Green Transition Initiative co-hosted an insightful roundtable discussion at the Center for Architecture + Design in San Francisco this past Monday. Together with the Consulate General of Sweden in San Francisco, Viable Cities, Vinnova, and the City and County of San Francisco, we brought together leaders from Sweden and California to explore impactful solutions for building decarbonization, electrification, and energy efficiency. Participants included representatives from the Climate Investment Funds, the Chairperson of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, a Visiting Professor from UC Berkeley, Business Sweden, and officials from the City of Oakland, San Francisco, and City of San José, along with the California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz), and California CARB, California Air and Resource Board. Their collective insights and expertise made for a robust discussion. Some key takeaways from our roundtable: ◾ Equity in Transition: Ensuring our decarbonization and electrification efforts reach all communities, particularly those historically underserved. ◾ Innovative Solutions for Energy Efficiency: Cities are advancing in adopting heat pumps, retrofitting older buildings, and scaling energy-efficient technologies, though challenges with infrastructure and funding remain. ◾ Collaboration is Key: Partnerships between the public and private sectors, along with community engagement, are essential to driving progress in sustainability. After the discussion, we had the chance to connect further during some great networking and to explore the inspiring exhibition Woodlife Sweden – Architecture, design, and sustainable city-planning presented by Jessica Becker – Wallenberg Senior Fellow, which highlights the potential of sustainable wood construction. Seeing the shared commitment to creating a greener, more sustainable future was truly inspiring. We look forward to continuing these vital conversations and driving forward actionable solutions. A special thanks to all our partners and participants for their invaluable contributions. Together, we are laying the groundwork for a sustainable tomorrow! 💡🏙️ #Sustainability #GreenTransition #EnergyEfficiency #BuildingDecarbonization #Electrification #SustainableCities
