Over 100 people gathered at the Madrona Highlands Welcoming Ceremony on Tuesday. Thanks to Housing Hope, EDMONDS LUTHERAN CHURCH, Community Health Center of Snohomish County, HAZEL MILLER FOUNDATION, and many other supporting agencies and funders for their years of planning and perseverance in bringing this project to fruition. We enjoyed working with Designs Northwest Architects, ARC Architects, and Kirtley Cole Construction to provide this amazing new community for 52 formerly unsheltered families to call home. In addition to the 1, 2, and 3-bedroom units, Madrona Highlands also provides community space where residents can get help with education, job training, family support services, and medical needs. The next Housing Hope project is already underway with the same design team in Lynnwood and is targeted to open in 2026.

Please join Zane, Marc Brown/Marc Brown Architecture and Design, Jeff Adams/Adams Construction Management, and Casey Losh/Ewing & Clark, Inc. for this educational session at the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation's PLACES Conference in Walla Walla. This panel will discuss preserving a community's unique heritage through reactivating three historic buildings. Roslyn began as a mining town in the late 1800s. A fire destroyed the original downtown in 1888, but it was quickly rebuilt. The Harper Lumber Buildings were constructed in 1895 and 1925, and Harpers Lumber was a significant presence in the community for decades. In 2019, long-time Roslyn property owner and developer John Brian Losh purchased the buildings with the intent to restore them to their former glory. Join us for a lively discussion about the risks involved in restoring historic structures, lessons learned, and the ultimate benefit to the community. 📸: Rob Fraser Photography

We’re excited to share that our project with Mithun, the University District Bouldering Project, was featured in The Seattle Times! The article dives into the unique process of turning a historic bank into a climbing gym, recreation, and co-working space. It’s a great example of how creative design and structural solutions can breathe new life into unlikely places.

How do you build a climbing gym inside a bank? The Seattle Times explores the Bouldering Project’s latest location, opening this fall in Seattle's University District. This adaptive reuse of the 112-year-old University National Bank Building makes the most of the historic structure’s expansive windows and architectural details. The gym features about 7,000 sf of bouldering terrain with two floors of 14- to 17-foot walls, a yoga studio, fitness space, coworking space, cold plunges and a sauna inside a converted bank vault. Read the story: https://lnkd.in/g7qevhqK It’s been a fun collaboration, and our sixth built location with The Bouldering Project. Kudos to the entire team!
