Yesterday marked a monumental milestone for Syracuse! We are thrilled to announce the award of a $50 million HUD Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant for the East Adams Neighborhood Transformation Plan. This historic grant, the first ever awarded in New York State, will revitalize Syracuse’s Historic 15th Ward, bringing new housing, educational, and economic opportunities. Yesterday, we celebrated this momentous occasion with Mayor Ben Walsh, HUD’s Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public and Indian Housing Richard J. Monocchio, HUD Field Office Director Lisa Pugliese, Congressman Brandon Williams, Senator Schumer’s Office, Onondaga County Executive McMahon, and other representatives. Thank you to our incredible partners, dedicated community members, Board of Commissioners, and employees who made this possible. Special thanks to our Executive Director, Bill Simmons, for your unwavering commitment to this project since 2012 and your steadfast determination to ensure its success! Together, we are building a brighter future for our city! For more photos: https://lnkd.in/gftmDgj6

Check out this awesome video from the Wells Fargo Storytelling Team showcasing a unique retrofit project at our 418 Fabius Street high-rise! This project features groundbreaking technology aimed at decarbonizing an aging public housing building. It includes an updated heating, cooling, and ventilation system that will benefit residents without causing displacement. Plus, it will sustainably lower energy bills and give the building a new façade! A huge thank you to everyone who participated in the video, and to our partners for bringing this innovative technology to SHA! • Last week, Syracuse Housing Authority was pleased to meet with Tom Perez, Senior Advisor and Assistant to the President, and Director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, to the Wilson Park Community Center. Our Executive Director, along with several partners and residents highlighted the $180 million federal Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods Grant for the I-81 Viaduct Project. Of this grant, $30 million will fund public infrastructure within SHA’s East Adams Street Neighborhood Transformation Plan. In addition, we participated in a robust roundtable discussion on the importance of continued community investment, accessible transportation, public housing, other critical topics. We then visited the Brexialee Torres Ortiz Boys & Girls Club at Central Village to give Director Perez an overview of SHA's transformative East Adams Street Neighborhood project. We appreciate Director Perez and President Biden for their ongoing commitment to investing in Syracuse!
