New York’s MTA is planning to begin construction on phase 2 of its Second Avenue subway line in Manhattan’s East Harlem. Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Second Avenue line is 1.76 miles from 96th Street to 125th Street and adds stations at 106th, 116th, and 125th Streets. This underground #project line is meant to benefit millions of people commuting into NYC every day! The total capital cost is estimated at a whopping $7.7 billion, and $100 million will be dedicated to utility relocations alone. The current cost estimate for #contingency for #projectrisk is up $558 million since MTA’s prior estimate in November 2019! These estimates are huge! Contingency for project risk could be brought down significantly if proper planning and #design is done early on, saving the FTA, MTA, and taxpayers millions of dollars to be allocated to other projects in the future. 

Sometimes it takes some imagination and vision! "But the #land on which #malls and #officebuildings sit is usually attractive to #developers. Malls were built in #locations with high #traffic counts and close to lots of #residentialdevelopment, while center city offices were built on valuable #downtown #realestate, said Ermengarde Jabir, senior economist at Moody's Analytics.
