This Cartoon is Funny but Ageism Is No Joke.... As the market continues to be utter garbage, it's important to point out that ageism is rampant. It is getting positively blatant in some ways. Phrases like 'You're overqualified', 'I don't think you'd fit into our culture', and so on, are key indicators that you're being discriminated against in this way. I wish this post could end with a triumphant 'And THIS is how you get them when they do that' or some such advice, but the truth is, when it comes to interviewing and jobsearching, there is little we can do about it legally. The best advice I can supply is to have a stellar resume that both emphasising your skills and achievements - without emphasising overall tenure of worklife. I'd also strongly advise practicing some solid responses to questions on technology and other topics that come up a lot when this type of discrimination takes place. The best defence is preparation. If you need any extra advice on this, just comment below or DM. If anyone has any good strategies, please do share them below also! #Ageism #Discrimination #Inclusion #HiringAndPromotion

If someone in the street said to me, "Hey! Let Us Help You Find Your Purple Dragon" I'd think they were either really obsessed with Game of Thrones, or maybe they were trying out some kind of inappropriate euphemism. To be very clear, though, when we say this we do not mean either! We actually mean that we are specialists at finding the type of candidate that isn't just good on paper, and looks shiny and perfect (like a unicorn does): we get dragons, because dragons get sh*t done, they breathe fire into your businesses, and bring home the gold... Metaphor, yes, but euphemism, no! #Hiring #Technology #Education #HumanResources #DigitalMarketing

We are proud to highlight the important work being done by National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children -- this is seriously underfunded work. 1 in 8 kids live with one or more carers with substance use disorders and the US spends more money on pet welfare than it does for these invisible victims. Please consider spreading the word and following their LinkedIn page so we can raise awareness and hopefully get some corporate sponsorships going to help this incredible organization help as many kids as possible. #Fundraising #Education #SocialImpact #Nonprofit #ELearning #Healthcare

DID YOU KNOW... that 1 in 8 children are living with one or more parents/carers with substance use disorders in the US? Isn't that statistic SHOCKING? I am floored that this could be the case... Children are often the first affected but the LAST considered victim of substance misuse. I want to take a chance to shout about a nonprofit organization that directly works to help identify and intervene for these unseen and unheard victims of the opioid crisis. National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children has been around since the 1990s, and is dedicated to supporting children and families affected by parental or caregiver substance misuse. Through first responder multidisciplinary training (law enforcement, teachers, social care, medical practioners), distribution of Crisis Kits to children suffering trauma, and online and mobile app resources, the organization empowers communities nationwide to provide life-saving services to drug-endangered children. If your company or organization would be interested in becoming a sponsor for this incredible, underrated nonprofit, send me a message so I can pass it on ASAP! Just because it was done QUICKLY, doesn’t mean it wasn’t done RIGHT. The idea that good work only comes from long hours and maximum effort is something drummed into us by society to make sure we don’t take shortcuts and work hard in life… But it also ignores something which I don’t think is talked about enough: expertise. And I think this is a key breeding ground for #ImposterSyndrome. But the fact is that when you have spent hours and years learning and perfecting your skills, you will naturally get faster at what you do. It doesn’t mean you were rushing, or you were churning out lower quality work. If you find yourself feeling like this is the case, take a moment to stop, think and properly benchmark your skill level. Don’t let that little voice win. Give yourself the chance to properly recognise your abilities and celebrate your productivity without questioning it. [Digital artwork by me, Lucy, of the historic Norwich Cathedral in Norwich, UK. After practicing digital art previously a couple of times, I created this one based on a photo I took. I did not believe it was good, because it did not take me that long, and so I immediately pulled over all my professional imposter syndrome and decided there was no way it was good or artistic enough, because it just did not take me long enough.] #ProfessionalDevelopment #Innovation #Entrepreneurship #MentalHealth

Neurodiversity. TM is owned and operated by an autistic woman (Lucy) and by a woman with ADHD (Darla). The ability Darla has to hyperfocus and, in her words "get sh*t done", is unparalleled, and Lucy is exceptionally detail-focused and super creative and also has that ability to really focus in on something. But the narrative that our neurodiversity is some kind of super power is very harmful. It increases expectations on us, promotes stereotypes, and invalidates the struggles we experience every single day just existing in a world that isn't really built for us. Darla can be incredibly productive due to her ADHD, but it also gives her anxiety, struggles with executive function, leaves her at risk of burnout, and of hyperfocusing on things that aren't as mission-critical as others. Lucy is great at detail and creativity, but she struggles to motivate herself if she doesn't have the right environment, is hampered by anxiety and depression (very much connected to autism), and struggles with prioritization. Only by appreciating the full picture can companies adequately provide the right environments for their neurodiverse employees to do what they do best, and safely. #Neurodiversity #Neurodiverse #ND #WorkplaceDiversity #Innovation

We wouldn't normally post this kind of insight (these images are literally from our proposal documents), but I feel like if you have something of value that needs sharing, it SHOULD be shared. Our leaders deserve support and the opportunity to grow. If companies give them that investment, they repay it back 7x over - it's proven! So, picture this. A company has leaders (Directors, VPs and Executives) that are not performing at their absolute peak. They're hustling, for sure, but not quite on top of things (it happens). Now imagine that you find out there's an Effective Leadership Series program that literally delivers 7.5x ROI... Nope, it isn't a magic genie making you that offer! It's just something that our CEO Darla with her PhD in Organizational Psychology has implemented time after time, with results that are just that good. These graphics show a business use case for just how that ROI would break down. Medium to enterprise-sized companies have done this countless times, with astonishing results. (Look out for my post in the new future about the company that saw $10m revenue increase in ONE quarter after the series concluded!). ) Have you ever heard of a program like this one with this level of ROI built-in? Can you think of a company or leadership team that could benefit from this type of boost? #Innovation #HumanResources #PersonalDevelopment #Entrepreneurship

Thinking about #ChatGPT and the application of #AI... I have heard that AI is a great leveller; that it provides access and can be extremely beneficial to minorities, low socioeconomic, and under-represented groups. A way to provide advantages to the disadvantaged. I have also heard that AI is the exact opposite; a way for those who have money to cut corners and get access to verbiage and artistry that they would have had to otherwise pay professionals for. A way for the rich to get richer, while making the poor poorer. Which of these comes closest to your view? Is it a bit of both? What do you think? #Innovation #Technology #HumanResources

It's critical so us that we build an environment where not only do people feel capable of being their full authentic selves at work, but that they receive all the support and understanding required when #chronicillness and #invisibledisabilities get them down. #PeriodStigma #FemaleEmpowerment #InvisibleIllness

I haven't been able to work for 6 days. I could flower this up with lots of euphemisms or analogies, but I think this is an issue that deserves a bit more frankness than that, so here goes. As someone who menstruates, I am totally used to battling through monthly struggles. I am used to pushing through on work days, used to sitting at the desk even when cramps are making me want to curl up, used to being within sprinting distance to a bathroom for a full cycle. I don't think it is right that I am used to those things, to be clear! I personally think that if all humans had this, we would have dramatically different rules around work and work-life balance. Sanitary products would also all be tax-free as a matter of course, as a bare bones necessity. But anyway, social conditioning aside, I'm not new to this condition! What is new is that I have been diagnosed with a condition called endometrial hyperplasia which means the uterus lining is abnormally thick and this leads to heavy menstrual bleeding, and all sorts of issues related. It is a pre-cancerous condition and may also be a sign that I am prematurely entering menopause, so needs urgent investigation also. My 'urgent' referral is mid-December. For 6 work days straight, I have been in so much pain that I haven't been able to work. For the entire month preceding that, I have been bleeding heavily non-stop, making me feel weak and tired. My company needs me, my team needs me... I am falling behind... I haven't been able to do half the outreach and business development I've wanted to do. It's been an absolute nightmare. And I know I'm not alone. I want to normalise discussion around this, because it's crazy to me that this is still taboo when almost half the people in the world deal with menstruation as a matter of course, and hundreds of thousands if not millions struggle with dysfunction and issues beyond the norm like me. Time to break the mould a bit... and actually talk about this. #PeriodPositivity #PeriodStigma #WomensHealth #ChronicIllness #FemaleEmpowerment

Client: I don't understand why people keep leaving... or why it's SO hard to hire for this role. Why can't we get someone awesome, and why won't they stay with us? Us: Could be a culture issue or a total rewards problem, or it could just be that you need a purple dragon! But whatever it is, we'd be able to help you out. We're not just a recruitment firm, we're a full HR partner too! Forget unicorns. Get a dragon. Forget agencies. Get a full partner! #TalentMasters #CultureFit #WorkplaceCulture #PurpleDragon #NowHiring
