"Should you be nice to your chatbot?" This is a great piece by Preetika Rana in The Wall Street Journal which cites our recent research findings. In our survey of 2,000 Americans, 48% of respondents thought it was important to be polite to AI, with Gen Z being the friendliest to robots.
How nice are you to your chatbot? “I treat ChatGPT like it’s my servant.” Not me, I’m at my polite best! People can’t agree on the right AI etiquette and it’s tearing them apart. Being rude can backfire, says Microsoft’s Chief Scientist Jaime Teevan. “Just like humans, AI can’t always be the bigger person.” It responds well to praise and—wait for it—the allure of tips 🤯 My latest on The Wall Street Journal front-page tomorrow. Which camp are you in?
