🌟 California is setting a new standard for health equity and reentry care! Through the Justice-Involved Reentry Initiative, Medi-Cal services are now available in state prisons, county jails, and youth correctional facilities 90 days before release. The goal? To connect individuals with essential care—addressing chronic and behavioral health needs—and provide them with smoother transitions back into their communities. With this initiative, California becomes the first state to secure federal Medicaid funding for pre-release services in correctional facilities, helping reduce emergency visits, hospitalizations, and recidivism. Every California county will adopt this program by 2026! At TASC, we see firsthand how access to health care can transform lives. Visit the TASC blog for insights from Maureen McDonnell, our Senior Director for Health and Justice, on how expanding Medicaid access for people in jail makes a difference. We are proud to have partnered with Justice System Partners (JSP) and the Health & Reentry Project (HARP) on a groundbreaking initiative that supports the implementation of the 1115 Medicaid Reentry Waiver in county jails. The MacArthur Foundation's Safety and Justice Challenge recently released a paper on this effort, and we're excited to share our role in it. In a new blog post, Maureen McDonnell, MPH, Senior Director for Health and Justice at TASC’s Center for Health and Justice, discusses the power of Medicaid in reentry efforts and the ways it helps reduce reincarceration, improves access to healthcare, and changes lives. Learn how this work aligns with TASC’s mission to create effective systems for justice-involved individuals. 🔗 https://ow.ly/Z1X850TEAW8 #Reentry #MedicaidReentryWaiver #CriminalJusticeReform #HealthcareAccess #TASC #CHJ #MacArthurFoundation #SocialImpact

We're encouraged to see progress in the fight against overdose deaths. According to data shared by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention overdose deaths have dropped by 10% this year. This is a step in the right direction, and we must continue our work to support individuals and communities impacted by addiction. Together, we can build on this momentum and create pathways to recovery for all. Thank you to Addiction Policy Forum for helping to spread the good news. #OverdoseAwareness #Recovery #PublicHealth #TASC #CommunitySupport https://lnkd.in/gFYEtYJC
