🌿 Australia’s TNFD Adopters lead the way in nature-related reporting Today, we announced that the total number of Australian companies and financial institutions that have committed to getting started with voluntary reporting of their nature-related issues in line with the TNFD recommendations now stands at 23, including a number of Australia’s leading ASX-listed companies. Among the list of Australian Adopters are Qantas, Telstra, Brambles, Bank Australia, EnergyAustralia, The GPT Group, Lion and Blackmores Group. These Australian adopters are part of a global group of over 440 companies and financial institutions representing over $6 trillion in market capitalisation among publicly-listed companies and over $16 trillion in assets under management (AUM) among asset owners and asset managers. “I am delighted to see the calibre and diversity of Australian companies and financial institutions now getting started with assessment and reporting of their nature-related issues. But others must follow their lead. As one of the world’s 17 megadiverse countries, Australia’s economy and society is more exposed than most to the acceleration of nature loss. It also has more to gain by leading on these issues and investing in the resilience of nature that underpins the resilience of businesses and capital portfolios across the economy.” - Tony Goldner, Executive Director of TNFD. We would like to thank Responsible Investment Association Australasia (RIAA), Australian Sustainable Finance Institute and Business Council for Sustainable Development Australia for their support. 🌏 Learn more about the full list of Australian TNFD Adopters and why this growing movement is critical for businesses everywhere: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gyzsJM9X 📢 Register as a TNFD Adopter to be included in our next cohort announcement at COP16 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eWXFXC9d 🗓️ Deadline: 11 October #TNFD #SustainableFinance #Nature #TNFDAdopter #COP16 #NatureDisclosure
Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD)
Financial Services
Enabling better nature-related risk management, corporate reporting and capital allocation.
About us
The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) has developed a set of disclosure recommendations and guidance that encourage and enable business and finance to assess, report and act on their nature-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities. The recommendations and guidance will enable businesses and finance to integrate nature into decision making. Our aim is to support a shift in global financial flows away from nature-negative outcomes and toward nature-positive outcomes, aligned with the Global Biodiversity Framework. Launched in 2021, TNFD released the first beta versions its framework for consultation and feedback between March 2022 and March 2024. Over the two-year design and development phase leading to the publication of the TNFD recommendations in September 2023, it received feedback from over 60 countries. Over 200 pilot tests of a prototype framework were conducted by business and financial institutions around the world across sectors, geographies and biomes. TNFD published its final recommendation in September 2023.

Discussion about nature at this year's #ClimateWeekNYC focused on the emerging standards landscape, nature transition planning and how to measure 'contributions to nature positive outcomes' both negative and positive. We have been leading important work on these issues over the past year in collaboration with a range of partners: With International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and EFRAG on standards for nature-related reporting; with Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ), the Transition Plan Taskforce (TPT), WWF on nature transition plans and with Nature Positive Initiative on the measurement of the state of nature. Thank you to all the organisations and organisers who invited the TNFD and our Taskforce Members to speak across the week. ⚡Highlights include⚡ ◾ Disclosures are one of the critical building blocks for action on climate and nature. In addition to providing the necessary information to investors to make sound decisions, it was clear from an excellent discussion Bloomberg with the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and a group of investors that disclosures are not just about compliance but about helping companies articulate how they are contributing to nature positive outcomes and how they are strengthening the resilience of their business model in the face of accelerating nature loss. ◼️ Discussion on the forthcoming Nature Positive Initiative state of nature metrics underlined the need for the science of nature to be conveyed in a way that has rigour and yet is translated into a practical set of metrics that support concrete action. ‘State of nature’ metrics are crucial for businesses in several aspects, such as aligning with financial flows, adding transparency to business processes and embedding into assessment and reporting architectures. ◼️ The focus of every business now must be on contributing to the building-back of the resilience of nature as a prerequisite for underpinning the resilience of their own business. With the science on the acceleration of nature loss beyond doubt, nature is now squarely a risk management issue for all businesses not a corporate social responsibility issue or a compliance 'check-the-box' burden. ➡️ ➡️ ➡️ Looking ahead to #COP16 To help build the confidence and capabilities of market participants on the global nature agenda, we will have a significant presence at #COP16 in Cali, Colombia. 📢 This includes announcing the next cohort of TNFD Adopters 📅 Deadline to register is 11 October 🔗 Register online - https://lnkd.in/eWXFXC9d #TNFD #Disclosure #CWNYC #COP16 #NatureDisclosure #SustainableFinance

I’m so proud of Telstra being an early adopter of TNFD. Our disclosures have: 🌿 Enabled us to systematically assess and manage risks, and have those conversations with investors in a way that’s consistent with industry 🌿 Guided our priorities in consolidating and maturing the development of our strategy for nature action 🌿 Signalled our ambition to continually improve the way we respond to material sustainability issues – and work with our customers, partners and industry to scale our collective impact. We recognise that putting a disclosure into the market that is guided by the TNFD framework – even when we are early in our journey – can build confidence for others to do the same. We are sharing our insights at the Business for Nature Action Symposium on 11th Oct. It’s a free, open invitation event. We would love to welcome you there. Registration: https://tel.st/ns24
