Managing the complexity of transformations, specially large-scale software, requires both organizational and architectural transformation. Organizational structures help teams work together by making sure everyone is clear on their roles, and how things should get done, making collaboration between departments easier. The term “knowledge work” was first coined in 1959 by Peter Drucker in his book “The Landmarks of Tomorrow”. Drucker described the transformation of society to a post-industrial state, with a shift from manual to non-manual work. The ‘effort’ of work was reshaped from mostly human motor skills to one of mostly mental cognition.
