🏗 It's been a busy few weeks on Washington State University’s Schweitzer Engineering Hall jobsite! Crews started steel erection a few days back, a major milestone for this progressive design-build project with ZGF Architects. So far, the project team has also: • Excavated 25,000 tons of soil • Mitigated basalt rock discovered during earthwork • Installed 600 linear feet of sewer and electrical lines under Spokane Street With a fall 2026 opening date, Schweitzer Engineering Hall is set to become the cornerstone of WSU Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture's new district on the Pullman campus and is part of a wider push to meet the growing demand for engineering, construction and design graduates.

The Upper School building at The Bush School earned Zero Energy Certification from the Living Future. Designed by Mithun in 2022 and built by Exxel Pacific, this three-story, 20,000 SF building includes classrooms and a partially below-grade assembly/multi-purpose room. It’s also notable for being the first school building in #Washington to receive Phius Passive House certification. 4EA collaborated with the design and construction teams throughout the project to provide consulting services related to building enclosure performance. On site at the Newhouse Building Replacement. Located in Olympia, the project includes senate and staff offices overlooking the Capitol Building. A central, four-story stairwell is illuminated by a skylight and threads the floors together, connecting spaces and departments, and becoming a mixing chamber in which faculty and statesmen can have impromptu collaborations. Adjacent to the stair, the future feature wall consists of Douglas Fir, salvaged from the deconstructed Press House, milled, carved, and organized in a way to emulate the five regions of Washington State— Water, Palouse, Plateau, Forest, and Mountain. The custom art piece creates a dynamic visual experience while also providing people a sense of place as they move through the building.
