Associate Service Designer and co-chair of the Fertility and Baby Loss Network at Cancer Research UK. Facilitation course leader at Tilt.
A big congratulations to Greenpeace MENA! Two groups of colleagues have now completed their 'Facilitation Skills for Change Makers' course with Tilt- learning the skills, tools and tips to begin or advance their facilitation journeys. What I loved most about these cohorts was how they engaged with each other- sharing their wins, offering suggestions and, overall, making the most of the group learning atmosphere 🤓 If you'd like to learn more about facilitating effective meetings and meet some great, like-minded individuals along the way, sign up to our waiting list for next year's courses below 👇 Nancy Afram Asma Mkechri ibtissam abou nasr asaad Madeleine Arnaout Hiam Mardini Maher Dakik Youssef F. Here at Tilt we love a Community of Practice. Here’s a new one that we think you’ll like. It’s bringing together anyone who is using creative evaluation or testing methods👇

Come along to our first (free!) Creative Evaluation Brunch Club. Thursday 7th November at 11am (booking link in comments) If you can't make this one, we plan to run a BI Brunch on the 1st Thursday of every month. Last week I had three separate conversations with Heads Of at large UK charities. They are all working to embed a more agile approach but struggling to get senior level leadership buy in. It reminds me of this brilliant conversation I had with Gareth Ellis-Thomas last year about how he got the buy in needed from the SLT at Prostate Cancer UK to bring in an Agile Lead, begin creating organisation-wide agile OKRs and start embedding agile right across the organisation (not just fundraising, comms and marketing). If you’re looking to do the same, here’s what Gareth recommends: 1. Learning through doing is the best form of evidence 2. Tell a story and then repeat it (over and over again) 3. Agile working requires influencing at the team and management levels 4. Find advocates and a community of agile change-makers 5. Be pragmatic and flexible I’ll pop the link in the comments if you want more detail. #agilecharities #charityleadership #digitalcharities

Another cohort of our signature Agile in Action course has just wrapped up. 🥹 Another 10 people heading back to their charities with the skills, tools and confidence to keep building an agile approach in their teams projects and every day work. 🚀 Well done, everybody! 🙌🏻
Just wrapped the September cohort of Tilt's Agile in Action cohort. Every time I facilitate this course I gain as much learning as enjoyment. It is the blessing of working with such inspiring and creative colleagues from across the sector. 😍 https://lnkd.in/e66n6QNA

Another cracking get together yesterday of the Charity Agile Leaders Club. If you’re embedding agile ways of wining in your non-profit, charity or purpose-driven org, join us! It’s a free and welcoming space where you’ll meet other folks doing the same. 👇
Today was Tilt's Charity Agile Leaders Club and, as always, it made me really grateful to be part of this community. I love how open and supportive everyone is of each other. We discussed some fundamental challenges of introducing agile approaches and making them work within and across teams. Some stand out points were: On 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 rather than relying on one cheerleader: 🤝 Take time to gather insights and find out the blockers 🤝 Think about the role of enjoyment and fun in this way of working 🤝 Demonstrate the benefits and celebrate achievements On using agile for work which is 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻: 💡Move to outcomes - the change or impact - from outputs 💡Recognise the challenges and taking time to build trust 💡Use retros as a place to unearth perspectives and experiences Our next meet-up is on 13th November. We use a lean coffee style so come along with your questions, challenges and ponderings: https://lnkd.in/ehubQTbP

Does your organisation have the right conditions for agile success? In a previous Charity Agile Leaders Club, the brilliant Connie van Zanten shared a simple yet powerful framework to assess whether your organisation is prepared to embed agile in a sustainable way. The four (pre)conditions for success are: 1. Leadership: Leaders who champion transformation and make it a priority. 2. Team(s): Cross-functional teams that are empowered, user-focused, and ready to learn. 3. A Mission: A clear, meaningful goal that aligns with your organisation’s purpose. 4. A Crisis: A pressing challenge that brings focus and urgency to your efforts. These elements don’t just set the stage for change—they enable it. Whether you’re driving digital transformation or embracing agile ways of working, understanding where you stand with these preconditions can make all the difference. A great first step with this framework is a stock-take of where you are in relation to these four conditions. Ideally do this with your allies and stakeholders. Where can you see opportunities? Are there areas you want to work on? Check out the comments for a link to the full write up, including Connie’s top lessons learned 👇 #charityagile #charitydigital #agilecharities

I equip changemakers and charities with the practical skills, tools and confidence for effective, inclusive leadership and governance. Forbes #DEI Trailblazer #Speaker #Trustee #Boards #Facilitator
I'm over halfway through the Tilt 'Agile in Action' course. This week, we've been discussing the facilitation of agile meetings. As an experienced facilitator, the principles were ones I already follow in my practice such as schedules, clear agenda, and 'elegant starts and endings'. Aspects that are less easy to teach include: - managing people's behaviours and expectations - navigating power dynamics that might not be known to you as an external facilitator A good start and end is important - whether you're facilitating a meeting, writing a bid, or giving a talk. It's about: - Ensuring that the space is inclusive and accessible (e.g. microphones as standard, captions on slides, breaks, buddying, different ways of gathering ideas and feedback) - How people feel when they join, and when they leave - The learning journey you plan to take them on - Which objectives need to take priority Which part(s) of the agenda are you prepared to drop to ensure that priority objectives are met? I observe that newer, less confident or experienced facilitators are nervous to drop elements to ensure an 'elegant ending'. Sometimes it's because the client or senior colleague pushes for everything on their long list to be included and they're afraid to push back. It's the role of a good facilitator to help them get clear on their key objectives so that learning is not lost due to a rushed or shortened end. Many of us have to facilitate in some way within our careers. Are there approaches you'd like to share about what has worked well for you, or that you've seen done well by others? #leadership #governance #facilitation
