As the number of cyber attacks across all industries continues to rise, it’s as important as ever to have safe cybersecurity practices – both personally and as an organization. While that often involves the technical infrastructure of networks and devices, it’s human error that typically opens the door for unauthorized users or criminals to access private information. I had the privilege of working with students at the Rochester Institute of Technology last semester as part of its Cybersecurity Clinic run by Sarah Yarger – a free program that gives students opportunities to work on real-world problems and systems for under-resourced community organizations. Click below to learn more about TechBuffalo’s experience, and how it can be a resource for other nonprofits, small businesses, schools, hospitals and municipalities in Western New York.

With the number of community-based organizations in Western New York, having a free resource like the Rochester Institute of Technology Cybersecurity Clinic, organized by Sarah Yarger, is invaluable for those organizations that may not have a staff or budget to implement safer cybersecurity practices. I was truly blown away by the students TechBuffalo worked with last semester. Not only did they thoroughly audit our admin platform, but they also provided practical recommendations that we could implement with a few minor tweaks here and there. The program is now accepting applications to participate in the fall 2024 program, but the deadline is fast approaching. Please click the link below and fill out the quick and easy form to apply by July 15th:
