Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to be part of a fantastic event - the Entrepreneurship Olympiad organized by TechDev Academy and Copernicus Olympiad. 🌟🌟🌟 at STANFORD FACULTY CLUB During the Olympiad, high school students were given a taste of entrepreneurship while they developed their ideas, and pitched them to a panel of well-respected entrepreneurs and innovators. The program featured over 30 speakers and mentors, including Nobel laureate and former U.S. Secretary of Energy, Dr. Steve Chu. Not only these experts gave inspiring sessions, but also shared their insights, stories with the students, encouraging them to develop an innovative mindset. The dedication and support these mentors provided were truly remarkable and well-received by the students and their families. The 4-day Olympiad concluded with the students competing in a pitch competition. Winners were awarded resources to help build their products & ideas, further fueling their entrepreneurial journey. Special thanks to the leadership and all the speakers who made this unique event such a success. Earlier this week, we held the final day of our Olympiad, the day of the final competition! 🏆 Leading up to this, the students have been developing their business ideas and building a pitch deck over the course of the Olympiad. For the competition, the teams presented their best business pitch to a panel of successful Silicon Valley entrepreneurs who acted as the judges. And the students were amazing. It was a spectacular display of creativity, enthusiasm, and passion for solving a problem that mattered to them. Here are just a few of the business ideas they developed: BIPS (Brain Impact Protection Services), a smart mouthguard with AI-based sensors to detect how strong of an impact an athlete sustains in contact sports. Smart Vision, real-time screen time health assistant that uses computer vision to monitor not only screen time, but also posture, proximity to the screen, and off-task behavior. Your Tailored Plate, an app that uses AI to create a highly specific meal plan based on a user’s specific body goals. Aura, an app for patients with dementia that acts as a 24/7 companion and incorporates spaced-retrieval therapy to help with memory loss through an AI chatbot. The winning teams received funding as well as ongoing mentorship in starting their business through an education start-up.
