Join us in supporting TED Fellow Alex Odundo and the important work he does. Alex is a mechanical engineer. He builds machines that change lives in his community in rural Kenya. Sisal processing machines to help farmers make money from a drought-hardy plant. Solar cookstoves. Windmills and water purifiers. He sells them at low cost so real people in small communities can actually buy them. Unfortunately, the economic impact of COVID hit his small business hard. He took out a loan in 2019 and he hasn't been able to pay it back. He put up his land and shop as collateral, and now he's in danger of losing them. This would be a disaster for Alex - and for the communities that need his machines. Help us save Alex's shop! He needs to raise 2,000,000 Kenyan shillings ($15,873 USD) to save his land. Your donation will go directly to Alex to pay off the loan. He is willing to share his loan documents with anyone who'd like to see them for verification. If we can raise $25,000 we can save the shop and give Alex a head start on the capital he needs to re-start his business. We are almost halfway there! Thank you for spreading the word with your networks too. https://lnkd.in/eitv8TY2

About us
The TED Fellows Program recognizes the folks working on-the-ground on world-changing ideas. To support their work, the program offers them TED’s power to articulate and amplify their vision. A world-changing idea is central to the selection of a Fellow, but our support goes deeper on the personal level. The TED Fellows program supports the individual capacity-building required to take the global stage. We equip TED Fellows with public speaking and media training, professional coaching, educational programming and peer support. We connect TED Fellows to a global network of peers and industry leaders because the only way to succeed is together.

Director, TED Fellows | Connector | Network-builder | Artist | Reimagining how we create, convene + collaborate to catalyze social change and innovation
Joel Bervell was one of the only Black students in his medical school program. After noticing how misconceptions about race were embedded in health care, he turned to social media to raise awareness about the harmful impact of biases in medicine. He unpacks the long history of race-based health care disparities — and shows what the medical field can do to better serve all patients. On the TED Talks Daily podcast today I talk to TED Fellow Joel Bervell, aka the Medical Mythbuster, about how we can start to change the systemic problem of racial bias in healthcare and how doctors can start to repair trust with their patients. I found this conversation incredibly useful and illuminating for anyone who wants tips on how to better advocate for themselves and their loved ones when receiving medical care. https://lnkd.in/dGzyZD3J

We are thrilled to announce our new partnership with Ballmer Group. Through their Community Impact vertical they have committed $3M to the TED Fellows program over the coming three years. This investment will help support the next generation of emerging talent innovating in their fields and working to solve the greatest challenges in their communities. Eshauna Smith, Ballmer Group's Director of Community Impact, said, “Our investment in this effort reflects our belief that advancing economic mobility at scale requires investment in the core supports and platforms needed to grow the innovations being put forth by the diverse set of talented leaders that the TED Fellows program supports.” She added, “We are excited by this partnership and look forward to learning from and with past and future Fellows.” Lily James Olds, Director of the TED Fellows program, said, “This meaningful investment from Ballmer Group will help TED Fellows evolve and grow over the next three years in new and exciting ways. As we face the most pressing issues of our times – climate change, wealth inequality, social justice and misinformation among them – TED is more committed than ever to supporting these talented innovators pushing boundaries in their fields to create a more informed, creative and just future.”
