Feeling spooked by intimidating conversations?💀 These tips will help you and your family navigate tricky conversations like a pro. From how to change the topic to how to exit a conversation gracefully, we’ve got you covered. (And remember: if you or a teen you know is struggling, you’re not alone! > Teen Lifeline is here to listen and help teens and anyone concerned about a teen by call/text at 602-248-8336. > Adults and anyone else in the US can call/text the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline for help with any mental health crisis at 988.) #Halloween #MentalHealth #Communication

    • Treats for tricky conversations.
    • We change how we speak based on who we’re talking with. In challenging conversations, use the level of openness right for that setting & relationship.
Entry level = polite, not emotional. Builds trust. (Example: talking with a store clerk).
Middle level = talk about common interests. (Example: talking with a classmate).
Highest level = share emotions & feedback. (Example: talking with a best friend).
    • “But sometimes a convo may start to feel like…” [Art of a creepy tree in shadow, eerie eyes glaring from it.]
    • If a conversation starts to feel unsafe, rude, or threatening, here are 4 ways you can opt out…”
    • 1. Agree to disagree. Examples:
“We have two totally different views, and that’s OK!”
“We both agree on X, but I have a different view on Y.”
“Could it be that…?”
“I don’t 100% agree, but I get what you’re saying.”
“What led you to that conclusion?”
