Empowering Families, Transforming Communities

About us

Headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, Telamon | TRC is a 501(c)(3) private non-profit organization that provides educational services through early childhood and family support programs, workforce and career services, and housing and financial empowerment services to nearly 24,000 individuals a year in eleven states. MISSION: Telamon | TRC disrupts the cycle of poverty by empowering families to overcome barriers to success. HISTORY: Since our beginnings in 1965 as the Migrant Project of the North Carolina Council of Churches, we have grown into a large, stable organization with diverse funding from federal and state governments, as well as substantial partnerships with private foundations. We became a HUD certified National Intermediary in the Housing Counseling sector, and we provide community action services through projects in West Virginia and North Carolina. In Indiana, we are Transition Resources Corporation, or TRC, since another organization held the Telamon name when we incorporated in that state. TODAY: Now with more than 55 years of service, Telamon | TRC provides the opportunity for people who are passionate about the success of their communities to transform the lives of their neighbors. Serving as coaches, leaders, and change agents, our team members help individuals build skills and knowledge to overcome barriers and inspire families to achieve educational success, foundations for a career pathway, financial management skills, and affordable housing of choice. Working every day, one family at a time, we are aligned in our common goal to empower families to disrupt the cycle of generational poverty, provide hope for their futures, and build a legacy of success and well-being for generations that follow. www.telamon.org www.transitionresources.org

We wanted to provide an important update regarding our employees impacted by Hurricane Helene. Over the past few weeks, we have seen the teams in Georgia and Tennessee come together in supporting each other, helping one another, and continuing to help families in need throughout their communities. In seeing and hearing about their efforts, we wanted to do even more to provide additional support to our dedicated employees directly impacted. We are excited to announce a t-shirt fundraiser, “Telamon|TRC, Stronger Than the Storm”, to support our colleagues and community members who were impacted by Hurricane Helene. The t-shirts feature a meaningful design that symbolizes our unity and support. We invite you, your family, and friends to purchase a T-shirt to help make a positive impact during the recovery period. The proceeds from this fundraiser will be shared with the leaders of our organization with sites in affected areas who will be able to identify solutions to support their teams’ unique needs. Our Telamon|TRC team has been truly amazing in their response to providing help and support. We've witnessed firsthand the power of our team spirit and the impact we can make when we work together. The T-shirts will be $20, sold in sizes ranging from small to 3-XL, and will be available in two colors: Tennessee Orange and Graphite Heather Grey. To purchase a shirt, please follow this link: https://lnkd.in/gcVPcCN6 Thank you for your generosity and support!

We were thrilled to welcome Congresswoman Deborah Ross, Wake County Commissioner Matt Calabria, and other Early Childhood Education (ECE) representatives to our Head Start program yesterday! After a tour of the facilities where Congresswoman Ross read to the children, everyone joined a round table discussion regarding the needs and importance of ECE. Their visit highlighted the important work we are doing to provide early childhood education and support to our community. Thank you, Congresswoman Ross and other representatives, for your continued support of our federal funding, which makes this vital program possible and helps so many children.

As we continue to witness the aftermath and devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in so many areas, our thoughts are especially with our employees, clients, and the communities in Georgia and Tennessee who have been deeply impacted by the storm. We understand that this is a difficult time for many of those impacted, and we want to assure you that Telamon | TRC is committed to supporting you. GEORGIA IMPACTS- Three of the four Migrant Head Start centers are closed and all have some level of damage. There is no power, no water and no internet. It is expected that the centers will be closed for 1 to 3 weeks. Two staff lost their homes while most of the others whose homes were impacted have relocated. Staff have been communicating with each other and families about emergency resources. For workforce, there is no power in areas we have staff but they are doing their best to wind down services as their grant transitions to a new grantee. TENNESSEE IMPACTS- Three of the five Migrant Head Start centers are closed. There is no power, no water expected for at least a week, and internet will be much longer to restore. Crops in local farms are destroyed so families will have no work. Roads and bridges have been washed out so we cannot get in/out of some of the communities. One staff member cannot leave her home; thank goodness emergency services knows she is there and is trying to support. Two of our staff have damage to their homes and and one employee’s son lost his home. Two families have been displaced and lost everything. Tragically four former Head Start parents lost their lives. They were working at a Plastics Factory and were unable to get out. The last one they were able to rescue was a mom of one of our teachers. Please consider donating, regardless of the size, to one of these important organizations.
