QR codes are a powerful marketing tool, but only when used correctly. To help you get the most out of your QR codes, here are some do's and don'ts to keep in mind. DO USE QR codes on printed items such as menus, catalogs, magazines, direct mail, postcards, business cards, billboards, and sharing cash apps. They can be a great way to provide additional information to your audience. However, DO NOT USE QR codes on unattended posters in public places. Many phishing scams have used stickers to overlay the real code, leading to fraudulent activity. Also, DO NOT USE QR codes in email newsletters, email marketing, social media posts, or on your website. Instead, use a destination URL link or button to direct your audience to the desired location. Backing up Graphic Design Files and Projects As a graphic designer, protecting your intellectual property is crucial. This means backing up your source files regularly. At Telework Design we understand the importance of this and archive customer files to ensure our clients stay in legal compliance. We retain licenses properly for the fonts and images used in our designs. It's important to note that while some customers may request access to source files, Telework Design only provides logos in source files as they become intellectual property for the customer. Any logos used in layouts that were enhanced are off-limits as they contain IP or fonts and graphics that Telework Design purchased to help enhance the graphic look of the logo or art in the layout, including framing and drop shadows. These licenses are not transferrable. A source file contains all of the original data and editable layers (usually a PSD or AI file for digital artists). The source file is important to keep if you have to prove IP infringement. The file stores all of the file information such as when the file was created and how it was exported for use and what type of use. Low resolution for social media and high resolution for print. Protecting your intellectual property is a subject for another day where we will be explaining how to legally track, document and collect for infringement. Cloud backups like AWS, Google Cloud, or Dropbox are great options for offsite recovery of data files. Back up your IP using incremental backups which only copies modified data since the last backup and has been a lifesaver at times for lost data. Do you have a preferred storage system?
