September is National Suicide Prevention Month. We want you to know that you are not alone and we are in this together. If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts, here are FOUR things to get right now: 1️⃣ GET HELP: Thoughts of suicide are your mind and nervous system’s way of communicating extreme distress, and offering a way out if things get really bad. But there are other ways of finding relief for what you’re experiencing. A mental health professional can help you navigate the difficult season you’re experiencing and provide you with tools and resources to help manage symptoms of depression and anxiety. If you already have a plan, and you’re intending to carry it out, immediately call 911 for emergency services or 988 for the crisis lifeline 2️⃣ GET COMMUNITY: We are hardwired for connection with others, especially in the midst of distressing emotions. But shame often tells us that if we talked with others about suicidal thoughts, we might be “too much” for them. It’s estimated that 10-13% of the population has thought about suicide at some point, and around 10.6 million US adults report having had a suicidal thought during the last year. So chances are good that you know someone who understands. Research has shown that the presence of another person helps to reduce our experience of suffering, even if our situation doesn’t change. 3️⃣ GET A PLAN: Work with a mental health professional and your network of family and friends to develop a thorough safety plan for responding to suicidal thoughts when they arise. Make the plan as specific as possible—identify the times where you are most likely to be at risk, and then identify someone you can lean on for support during those times. Write down your plan, including names and contact info, and share it with all those included on your team. 4️⃣ GET MOVING: A recent meta-analysis of studies of exercise effects on depression found that the top two most effective anti-depressants were dancing and walking/jogging. If you’re feeling depressed or anxious, regular physical movement and aerobic exercise is one of the most effective ways of boosting mood and regulating emotion. #suicideprevention #mentalhealthawareness

Ten Ten Life stands alongside the DC Metropolitan Police Department @dcpolicedept in mourning the loss of Investigator Wayne David, a 25+ year veteran of MPD, who died late last night due to injuries sustained in the line of duty. Officer David was a highly respected member of MPD, a loving father to two children, and also served his community by providing safety and security for @NationalCommunityChurch for many years. Everyone who encountered Officer David experienced firsthand his love for people, his contagious joy, and his calm demeanor in the midst of stressful situations. Officer David’s tragic loss underscores the very real dangers faced by the men and women who choose to serve and protect our communities as Police Officers. Ten Ten Life is here to offer Counseling support to those from Officer David’s MPD family who have been impacted by his loss.

Happy National Nonprofit Day! 🎉 Nonprofit organizations are a special type of entity whose primary goal is to serve the public interest and further a specific cause, without any intention of making a profit. But why should we support them? Because nonprofits play a crucial role in addressing societal challenges—from education and healthcare to environmental conservation and human rights—it's critical to enable these organizations to be fully and completely dedicated to affecting change and making a difference. Nonprofit organizations identify a need and form a bridge between those who are motivated and able to donate to that cause and those communities who need it most. At Ten Ten Life, we believe in the power of giving back and paying forward, so it is in our DNA to support other nonprofits. We identify other nonprofits in our area that we think are doing great work so we can partner with them and support them. Nonprofits we supported and partnered with this year: 🔸 @code3-association - Code 3 Association - building healthy communities and creating conditions for cops and communities to work better together 🔸 @fosterthefamilydc - Foster the Family DC - provides emergency support and holistic care to foster, adoptive, and kinship families in the DC Metro area 🔸 @veterans_moving_forward - Veterans Moving Forward - making a meaningful difference in the lives of disabled veterans through caring service dogs 🔸 @foodonthestovedc - Food on the Stove - provides tools and resources to help firefighters live a healthier lifestyle through enhanced nutrition and exercise They are great organizations and we encourage you to check them out and support them too! As always, we welcome your support too. If you want to support military members, veterans, and first responders recovering from the devastating mental health impacts of trauma, visit our website and donate today! #NationalNonprofitDay #SupportNonprofits #GiveBack #MakeADifference #SocialGood #DoGood #PayItForward #HelpOthers #nonprofit #donate #counseling #coaching #veterans #military #firstresponders

“Trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however, have to be a life sentence. Not only can trauma be healed, but with appropriate guidance and support, it can be transformative.” – Peter Levine While many of us will experience trauma in one form or another throughout our lives, we do not have to be trapped and stuck in the traumatic space and doomed to experience trauma symptoms for the rest of our lives. There is hope and healing and effective treatments that are proven to reduce or eliminate trauma symptoms. 70% of people worldwide will experience trauma of some kind in their lifetime. There are currently about 12 million people in the United States with PTSD. Approximately 7% to 8% of the US population will have PTSD at one point in their lives. But there is hope and there is help available. We now know there are effective treatments available for PTSD, which can help reduce or eliminate symptoms of PTSD. Unfortunately, getting access to these treatments is not always easy or possible. If you or someone you know is experiencing the effects of trauma, tell someone and reach out for help. If you are active duty military, veteran, or first responder, Ten Ten Life can help you access trauma-informed counseling and professional coaching services in order to experience healing and wholeness. Not all wounds are visible. You are not alone. We are in this together. Stay in the fight.

Happy Independence Day! 🇺🇸 On this July 4th, we celebrate our Freedom and Independence as a nation, a freedom that many fought long and hard to earn. We say thank you to all the brave men and women past and present who provide and protect that Freedom. What better way to acknowledge and say thank you on a day like today than to support an organization whose mission is providing essential care and services to veterans, military personnel, and first responders who need help. The purpose of our Freedom Drive is to raise funds to provide essential counseling and coaching services to those recovering from trauma. There are only FOUR days remaining in our drive, extending through the holiday weekend. We are asking you to consider supporting Ten Ten Life as we help these heroes experience healing and wholeness again. We hope you enjoy the 4th and celebrate our Freedom and Independence today and this weekend! As you are enjoying the 4th of July festivities—maybe enjoying good food and good company at a BBQ or awed by a fireworks display—we encourage you to take a moment and reflect on the brave men and women who serve us and provide and protect our freedom. And then consider paying it forward by giving them the gift of Mental and Emotional Freedom in their daily lives. Ten Ten Life helps veterans, military, and first responders access counseling and coaching as they recover from traumatic experiences. We help cover the costs of these services to make them more accessible, but as a donor-supported nonprofit, we need your help. Our goal is to raise $10K by the end of 4th of July weekend, which will unlock a 100% matching donation! Your donation can enable a veteran to access effective trauma-informed mental health care that was previously out of reach or too expensive. Or your donation can empower a retired firefighter to create a new path forward full of hope and possibilities through working with a professional coach. All funds donated will go toward helping Military Personnel, Veterans, and First Responders access the highest quality trauma-informed Counseling and Professional Coaching services they need to experience healing and wholeness.

“Trauma is perhaps the most avoided, ignored, belittled, denied, misunderstood, and untreated cause of human suffering.” – Peter Levine Trauma and traumatic experiences can take many forms and will show up differently for each person.
