Landscape Architecture + Urbanism

About us

Founded in 2015, TEN x TEN is a transdisciplinary landscape architecture and urban design practice grounded by a shared curiosity and passion for experimentation, storytelling, and agency. We collaborate with visionary clients and teams to co-create immersive, resilient landscapes that adapt to social, economic, and environmental transformation. Capitalizing on creative alliances between fields, we operate comfortably within a shifting set of disciplinary boundaries. We listen, communicate, and trust, cultivating a design process full of community and laughter. Our work pays careful attention to craft, beauty, and temporality inherent in any landscape. Merging art and science, our process challenges norms of the landscape architecture profession. We ask: What do we see? How can we document, investigate and experiment to build relationships and deepen our ways of knowing? How can we apply various modes of seeing and making to discover the magic latent in a site? Our studies document change: mold, decay, growth, competition, failure, and resilience. We explore spaces, stories, materials, and ecologies at all scales, and elevate the everyday human experience through a deep respect for the authenticity of people, culture, and ecology.

    08. Minnesota Zoo With a mission to connect people, animals, and the natural world to save wildlife, we admire the Minnesota Zoo's continual commitment to climate resilience and conservation, inspiring visitors to take action in their own communities. Along with Snow Kreilich Architects, we have worked closely with the Minnesota Zoo since 2020, primarily on the Treetop Trail. In the year since the Treetop Trail was opened to the public, nearly 1.5 million people visited the Zoo setting a new all-time attendance record in 2024, connecting even more visitors to animals and nature. 09. Regional Industrial Development Corporation As a private nonprofit with an economic development mission, Regional Industrial Development Corporation (RIDC) combines a community service orientation with the entrepreneurial approach and expertise of a private sector business. We admire their commitment to envisioning transformational spaces that spark change in the communities they partner with. Since 2015, we have worked with RIDC and MSR Design on three project phases of the Mill19 development, an adaptive reuse project that has transformed a former steel mill into a sustainable, high-tech innovation district. 10. Juxtaposition Arts Juxtaposition Arts develops community by engaging and employing young urban artists in hands-on education initiatives that create pathways to self-sufficiency while actualizing creative power. Their dedication to engaging and empowering young urban artists is inspirational and unparalleled. We have had the great privilege of co-creating and envisioning new meaningful public spaces with JXTA and 4RM+ULA on many projects since 2016, including Freedom Square, the 26th Avenue North Overlook, and the award-winning Juxtaposition Arts Campus. . . . 04. Gallaudet University  Gallaudet University has been the educational, political, social, and economic engine of the deaf and signing community on a national and global scale for more than 150 years. We admire their commitment to supporting the rich history, culture, and achievements of Black Deaf people who continue to face barriers with educational success. TEN x TEN and MASS Design Group have been hired to design a memorial and garden to honor Louise B. Miller, a mother who led the fight for educational justice for Black Deaf children, including her son, Kenneth, during segregation.    05. Dakota County Parks  Dakota County Parks provides high-quality recreational and educational opportunities in harmony with natural resource preservation. We love their commitment to working with Indigenous communities to rethink co-management, interpretation, and design throughout their park system.   TxT has worked with Dakota County since 2015 on projects including the Minnesota River Cultural Resources Interpretive Plan, the Spring Lake Park Reserve Vision Plan and Messaging Plan, and the Dakota Homeland Frames interpretive features.    06. The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund  As the world’s largest and longest-running organization dedicated to gorilla conservation, we greatly appreciate the Fossey Fund’s integrated and holistic approach to saving gorillas through protection, research, training, and helping local communities. 10.10 Day is a day we’ve chosen to come together, discuss, share, and celebrate all things TEN x TEN. This year, we want to highlight some of our amazing clients and partners who are doing incredible work leading, advocating, challenging typical decision-making models, and pushing our public landscapes toward places that serve all people. We’re so grateful to support and collaborate with such remarkable organizations. 01. Lakewood Cemetery Lakewood Cemetery is a historic 250-acre cemetery in Minneapolis, and we admire their mission to celebrate, and honor loved ones from the whole community. On the heels of their 150th birthday, TxT and Snow Kreilich Architects collaborated with Lakewood to build new welcome gardens and a net zero Welcome Center as a way of extending their mission into the landscape. 02. Great River Passage Conservancy + City of Saint Paul Working in partnership with the City of Saint Paul, the Great River Passage Conservancy leads advocacy and private fundraising efforts for three key projects along Saint Paul’s 17 miles of Mississippi River that will create opportunities to experience the river in new and equitable ways. In 2023, funding was secured from the State Legislature to advance the River Learning Center into final design development and construction documentation. TxT and VJAA Inc. have been selected to lead this next phase of work, with a focus on design implementation and advancing community engagement. 03. Wakan Tipi Awanyankapi Wakan Tipi Awanyankapi is a Native-Led, environmental stewardship nonprofit centered in Dakota values whose leadership, restoration initiatives, and expansive programming is transformational. It has been an honor to work alongside WTA on the Indian Mounds Messaging Plan and Phase 1 Implementation, and we look forward to working together on the next phase of work at the River Learning Center. . . . The Ground Mural is the latest addition to the Juxtaposition Arts Campus thanks to the amazing partnership between Juxtaposition Arts and TEN x TEN! This overlay amps up what is already a vibrant hub for community, creativity, and collaboration. This project was made possible by the generous support of the Metropolitan Council of the Twin Cities Livable Community Development Account (LCDA) with additional partnership from the City of Minneapolis, our architectural partners, 4RM+ULA and Element Commercial Real Estate and the JXTA Development team. We are deeply grateful for the dedication and hard work of everyone involved! A special shout out to Irene Woods for leading this design, Qadiym Washington for coordinating and executing, and Harmonee Harrison for executing and documenting this process- all three are former TxT interns, and we’re so proud of everything they’ve accomplished! And a special thank you to the JXTA Environmental Lab lead, Changó Cummings, the entire JXTA Enviro studio team and Roger Cummings, JXTA Chief Cultural Producer and Co-Founder. Today, we celebrate the five-year work-iversary of Katie Kelly! Since joining the TxT team in 2019, Katie has played an integral role in many projects, including the Minneapolis College of Art and Design Campus Plan, and the award-winning Indian Mounds Cultural Landscape Study + Messaging Plan and Juxtaposition Arts Campus. She was recently promoted to Senior Associate, all while becoming a new mom this past April- an incredibly admirable accomplishment!   Driven to make with purpose and with others, Katie most values work that is cross-disciplinary, collaborative, and inclusive. Her approach to design always holds these values, building meaningful and trusted relationships with stakeholders, clients, and collaborators, and seeing opportunity in the complexity of public and institutional projects both big and small.   She believes the power of landscapes lies in how people engage with each other differently in response to spatial design, and this exchange of people and place is what motivates her to continue this work.   Thank you, Katie, for all that you do! We’re so grateful to have you on our team!
