Founded 2024, an independent game studio providing narrative experiences that plunge players deep into the rabbit hole.

About us

Founded in 2024, our focus as a new game development studio is to provide narrative experiences that plunge players deep into the rabbit hole. Every story, regardless of the premise, can be told in unique ways that invoke a deep reflection about the characters we meet, the choices we make, the consequences we create, or the outcomes we provoke. Our goal is to leave a lasting impression on players and provide an experience that sticks with them. It may be a moment of triumph, or a devastating revelation. Suffice it to say, we want our games to continue to be enjoyed in a players’ mind well after they’ve stepped away from their controllers. Our first game, 'The Last Ark,' (officially announced in Feb 2024) is a narrative thriller title.

Here is the full statement from the studio director regarding our stance on Generative AI (originally posted with the attached image on February 15, 2024): "Our studio has a policy regarding generative AI art and content. I’ve already had a handful of folks ask me if this is a wise move, asking if this decision might hamstring our development as a studio. But, having experimented with the tools, I can honestly say we can do a better job without them. If they figure out a way to refine the tools that won’t continue to conflict with the intellectual property of other artists, maybe (a big maybe) we’d give them a second look. But as somebody who has also tasted the bitter pill of tech industry layoffs because of big studios shifting to AI to cut corners and save a buck, I never want to inflict that upon anybody else. To be clear, I don’t necessarily hate or disrespect those who want to continue to invest in the future AI has to offer (provided it can overcome the current issues). But with the current industry’s “all in, despite the consequences” or “the ends justify the means” approach to AI right now, I feel anything that devalues our contributor’s work in any way should not have a place in the studio. Some may disagree with this approach, but I sleep better at night, knowing I am doing everything possible to protect my artists and creative contributors. And if you can’t understand that or consider such a move “bad for business,” then I’m delighted to disappoint you." Original post: https://lnkd.in/guAR9ATX

Here's the announcement teaser/trailer for our debut title 'The Last Ark,' a narrative thriller. As development progresses & additional funding is secured, we'll be looking to grow our team, so please watch this space and follow Terabbit Studios to stay up to date! When that time comes, the roles we'll be looking to expand are: 3D and environment artists, human concept artists, and programmers with Unity and C# experience. Console porting experience is a plus. The game’s technology will feature a mixture of real-time 3D environmental gameplay, scripted sequences (both real-time and pre-rendered), full-motion video, a detailed interactive interface and management system, professional voice talent, and a full soundtrack. The story will feature a dynamic choice and consequence system, randomized narrative beats the player must adapt to, and interwoven pathing, leading to multiple unique outcomes.

We have four core pillars at Terabbit Studios, but one of our pillars is particularly important: "Indie heart, epic output... Deliver AAA studio quality but maintain indie pride, accountability, ownership, and untempered creativity. We want our team members to feel like they own it… not like they are owned." Here's how we break this down... Pride: Many indies already deliver stellar experiences that enable them to stand alongside today's AAAs (or above, in many cases). Therefore, we understand this quality is not exclusive to us, and we are proud to stand beside other indies as they continue to uplift the market, now more than ever! Accountability: Having seen so many talented people disenfranchised by larger studios, primarily due to mass layoffs over the past 12 months, we want to ensure our staff and contributors are not treated like a subscription service that can be canceled anytime. We must take full accountability for our trajectory and do everything we can to ensure we, the ship's captains, stand up for our crew. This means lifting our staff to take center stage during our times of success and triumph. "Rising waters should lift all the boats, not just the yachts." But more importantly, as captains, we must be the first to take responsibility for the rough seas and be the first to stand in line to take our licks during the hard times. Too many big studios today are too quick to jettison the crew before jettisoning the rum, and that has to stop. We will further stand up for our crew by continuing to restrict the use of Generative AI tools from our studio until it can be ensured these tools aren't being developed and used at the expense of creatives, their intellectual property, and their livelihoods. Ownership: We understand folks have grown wary of feeling like they're a studio's property rather than a contributor. Including forced return to office or hybrid plans and relocation requirements. We adopt no such archaic attitudes. We are a remote studio that does not require our staff to relocate for the job. As we grow, our studio plans to have a central base of operations where sharing experiences in person is welcome, but this will never be a hardline requirement. We want our team members to feel like they own it, not like they are owned. We are still a young studio, and we are growing and learning. But with these foundations, we firmly believe indies and AAs (especially those who share similar principles) will be at the forefront of the industry. And about time.
