Pre-construction #surveying can feel like a balancing act—site engineers and surveyors need to gather comprehensive data without slowing down the project. Grading issues, flood risks, and soil stability all need to be assessed early, but tracking so many variables can quickly overwhelm timelines and budgets. How do you ensure nothing slips through the cracks while keeping things moving? That’s where smarter #spatialdata approaches come in. Tools like LiDAR-based modeling and digital twins are helping teams visualize risks, optimize layouts, and make decisions faster. Here's 5 Key Spatial Data Approaches according to Teren's Principal Technologist Ben Lowry: https://hubs.ly/Q02W8NKn0 With Teren’s Environmental Digital Twin, surveyors can stay on schedule, avoid surprises, and better plan for construction costs—without sacrificing accuracy. Data Dazzle: This is a prescriptive model of prime sites for well pad development. It was generated using terrain and imagery data in combination with Teren's proprietary climate, soil, vegetation and hydrology models that were rapidly processed and analyzed in the Terescale high-performance computing engine. The model also integrated infrastructure, wildlife habitats and land ownership data to deliver prescriptive intelligence to rank optimal sites best suited for well pad development and access roads. Prime pad sites are indicated in black. This analysis was conducted for the US Bureau of Land Management and guided site selection of minimal environmental impact and maximum economic efficiency both upfront and later during eventual well pad reclamation. #GeospatialData #BLM #WellPads #HPC #SiteDevelopment #Environment

Well pad reclamation in Colorado involves intricate processes and strict regulations. Companies acquire numerous assets over the years, and then often face difficulties in locating and classifying their well pads. One major oil and gas producer has tapped into Teren's advanced models—integrating LiDAR, aerial imagery, and vegetation indices—to efficiently classify, prioritize, and accelerate well pad reclamation. "By using remote sensing data, we can provide accurate assessments without the need for frequent site visits. This not only saves time and money, but also aligns with goals of modern upstream operators to minimize environmental impact” - Jacob Spurgin, Teren Solutions Engineer Read the case study 🔗: https://hubs.ly/Q02VpWGB0 #oilandgas #wellpads #environment #energy #upstream Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission

Data Dazzle: 100-year Flood #Watershed Analysis This analysis is a 3D simulation of placing barriers (in yellow) to protect structures (in red) downstream from 100-year flooding events in areas impacted by the Hermit’s Peak #Wildfire in New Mexico. Depth levels progress from orange to blue. These simulations are generated using high-resolution LiDAR data in combination with Teren's proprietary climate, soil, vegetation and hydrology models that were rapidly processed and analyzed in the Terescale high-performance computing engine. The results have guided the placement of 50mi+ of flood barriers in the recovery following the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Wildfire. #floodmodeling #100yrflood #geospatialdata #climatesolutions

Exciting Legislative Advancements for Wildfire Technology🔥 In the face of increasing wildfire risks, two significant bills—at both State (Colorado) and Federal levels—are paving the way for enhanced technology deployment in wildfire prevention and mitigation. Colorado’s "Applying Artificial Intelligence to Fight Wildfire" (Bill 1) and Section 303 of the Federal HR8790 Fix Our Forests Act offer exciting new opportunities for using AI, remote sensing, and machine learning to better predict, track, and fight wildfires. Learn more about these legislative efforts here: https://hubs.ly/Q02S2SMg0 With over 39,000 wildfires burning 7.4M acres this year alone, it’s encouraging to see bipartisan efforts at both levels of government driving advancements in wildfire technology. #WildfireTech #GIS #AI #ClimateResilience #FixOurForests #congress #policy

🐻 It’s #FatBearWeek! While we’re celebrating some seriously plump bears (and the remote sensing technology used to monitor them 🤓), we're reminded of a different kind of challenge our geomorphologist John Norman faced: locating polar bear dens using remote sensing. Spoiler alert: not even science can track a sleeping, salmon-filled bear when it’s in stealth mode. Thankfully, John moved on from geolocating bear dens to instead identifying landslide risks— it’s kind of like predicting where a bear will plop for a nap after a buffet, but with more soil and less salmon. From polar bear puzzles to wildfire #digitaltwins, John Norman proves that when science meets grit, nothing’s out of reach.
