Humans are a part of nature — so restoring our forests is about more than just planting trees. Rebuilding an ecosystem sustainably means addressing the needs of the human communities that coexist with the forest — such as shelter, food, and safety. In the Philippines, Terraformation is embarking on an ambitious new restoration project in partnership with CCCO2, a Philippine reforestation and conservation company founded in 2018. As the biodiverse forest is restored to this former colonial cattle ranch, agroforestry will enable the local Indigenous communities to grow native crops like cocoa, hemp, and millet. A few facts about this project: • 1,000 hectares, with 12,000 hectare expansion potential • 508,000 tonnes of CO2 sequestered over 40 years • Environmental co-benefits include improved water quality, reduced risk of wildfires, and enhanced erosion and flood control • Agroforestry areas will integrate crops of cocoa, hemp, and adlai (millet) • Equal employment opportunities, including for women in leadership positions We're excited to begin the restoration of this beautiful mountain region. Trees and water have a good thing going. Not only is water vital for a tree’s survival, but when it rains, the tree’s roots hold the soil together, slowing down the absorption of precipitation, which removes pollutants, refills aquifers deep in the earth, and provides drinking water for more than 150 million people in the U.S. Trees can also affect healthy rainfall patterns by releasing water vapor through their leaves. That means when large swaths of forests are lost, areas thousands of miles away can experience drought and other devastating climate effects. Forests benefit rainfall, precipitation benefits forests, and water and forests benefit us. And for that, we can't thank them enough. https://lnkd.in/gyvQp8Vb

We'e excited to be partnering on a booth with Kinomé at #COP16 next week! Look for Booth no. 41 in the Green Zone in the Distrito Financiación y Sectores Productivos. Visit us at our booth during the event or request a meeting with the Terraformation team here: https://refore.st/4ezThH2
📢 Kinomé will be at the #COP16 for Biodiversity in Cali, Colombia, from October 22 to November 1, 2024! 🍃 As biodiversity protection becomes a global priority, it is crucial to bring together private and public companies, NGOs, financial actors, and local communities around the same table. In less than a month, COP16 will place the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, adopted in 2022, at the heart of discussions. This ambitious framework aims to reverse biodiversity loss by 2030 by protecting ecosystems, restoring degraded lands, and reducing threats to biodiversity. Being present at COP16 will allow us to exchange innovative ideas and solutions to achieve this common goal. It will also be an opportunity to strengthen our existing partnerships and forge new ones with key actors, especially in Latin America, where we have exciting projects planned for 2025! 🌱 👥 The Kino'team in Cali: Nicolas Métro, President and Founder of Kinomé Camille Navarette, Impact Finance Expert - Project Manager Latin America Carlos Arenas Vargas, Latin America Project Officer Iris Parrot, Partner Consultant Come meet us! You can book a time slot here: https://lnkd.in/eHUEAHXU #COP16 #Kinome #AgroecologicalTransition #Biodiversity #SustainableDevelopment #SustainableFinance #Colombia #ZeroDeforestation #Agroforestry #humanpotential

Foresters, wave goodbye to outdated spreadsheets and paper records and say hello to Terraware! 👋 Through years of experience with forestry projects, we recognized the need for advanced, user-friendly tools to support the entire reforestation process: from mapping planting areas to sourcing native seeds, managing nursery operations, tracking planting progress, and more. So we created Terraware. We built upon protocols established by the US Forestry Service, integrated best practices in forest science, and rigorously tested features at our pilot restoration site in Hawaiʻi. The result? A comprehensive forest management platform that can be leveraged by project teams as well as investors and funders. And because restoration technology is critical to solving the climate crisis, we made Terraware free and accessible for foresters everywhere. Let’s improve transparency and scalability for native reforestation projects worldwide. Start using Terraware today! Funding is the single greatest obstacle to high-quality ecosystem restoration. We're honored to be included by World Economic Forum, UpLink - World Economic Forum, and 1t.org for our work in unlocking capital, making it possible for exceptional forestry teams to scale their projects!
Two weeks ago, the World Economic Forum launched a report on "Investing in Natural Capital" highlighting the ways in which innovation plays a key role in unlocking more capital for nature. Here are some of the startups selected by UpLink - World Economic Forum and 1t.org, whose innovations are making it easier for financing to flow to nature - from the way ecological evidence is collected to the way nature is being "uplifted" by actions taken at a local level. This list is not exhaustive and meant to give a snapshot of the nature innovation space and highlighting recent UpLink Top Innovators. ➡ You can find the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dm-dcqtE NatureMetrics Mozaic EarthTreeswift Pivotal Future Pano AI Gentian Robotics Cats 3Bee Nala Earth Soilytix Bioverse umgrauemeio Boomitra Wilder Climate Solutions Carbon Counts Treeapp Open Forest Protocol Earthly Terrasos Belterra Agroforestry Terraformation Zulu Ecosystems InvestConservation®SankalpTaru Foundation Cultivo Land Life Ecoflora Cares AirForestry Groasis Ecological Water Saving Technology (Groasis B.V.) Now, this is how it's done! Community-based native reforestation in Borneo brought back at least "47 species of mammals, birds and reptiles, 18 of them at risk for extinction" — and on less than 300 acres of land! The involvement of the community made all the difference: "After villagers were hired to regularly weed and water the land, the survival rate of saplings rose substantially, and is now above 70 percent." A leader of the nonprofit said that "addressing the needs of the people living nearby first was key to the project’s success." When we restore forests with biodiversity and community needs in mind, everyone wins. 🦥 👫🏽 🌳 Read more (gift link): https://lnkd.in/ez9WAE3W
