Born and raised in Lockhart, Texas, Terry Black passed down generations of barbecue knowledge learned from his experience in the Lockhart BBQ scene. His twin sons Michael and Mark Black bring their very own style of Central Texas BBQ from Lockhart to Austin and Dallas and now to you and your family to enjoy!

    Today, we are going Beyond The Smoke to introduce a hardworking and dedicated teammate who smokes some of the best BBQ in Waco, Texas. Meet Jesús Ortiz– a Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, México native, hardworking and passionate individual, and the Head Pitmaster at Terry Black's BBQ Waco. Jesús Ortiz, also known as Chuy, began working with us in February 2024 and brought his deeply rooted love for food and fire right to our smokehouse. Growing up in one of the most "stunning cities, surrounded by mountains and steeped with rich tradition," grilling Carne Asada was fired up at least two to three times a week which helped begin Chuy's passion. As he began to explore his passion further, Chuy was able to gain experience in the industry and learn from many different individuals in the BBQ community about the craft. He even had the opportunity to work at a BBQ joint that was included on Texas Monthly's Top 25 New Joints and Top 50 BBQ list. His previous experience includes traveling, cooking, and serving BBQ at different joints in Texas. His favorite thing about working at Terry Black's is witnessing the incredible scale of 24/7 production, the rhythm of the fires, and offering pit tours to anyone who stops by the smokehouse. Anytime there's an opportunity to share his passion and knowledge, he'll take it! His go-to meal is our Brisket and Beef Ribs, but he could also eat Pork Ribs and Turkey with some Mac and Cheese. When Chuy isn't working hard smoking the best BBQ in Texas, he loves to spend time with his beautiful family and play with fire alongside friends at festivals and events.     We’re celebrating a decade of our Austin location being open! Here’s to many more years and we aren’t done yet!

    Today we are happily celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Terry Black's Barbecue! Ten years ago in 2014, the Austin location opened its doors to the community and since then we've grown across the state of Texas! It's been an amazing ride and we're not done yet. ❤️ BFH would like to thank our staff and family, they have all been pivotal in the upward success of Terry Black's, we couldn't have done it without you!

    Today, we are going Beyond The Smoke to introduce a hardworking and dedicated teammate who is our new addition to the company. Meet Michael Burns– a Philly native, dependable and ambitious individual, and the Multi-Unit General Manager of Terry Black's BBQ Waco and Opal's Oysters. Michael Burns began working with us in March 2024 and quickly adapted to the fast-paced environment that comes with Terry Black's Barbecue. With his extensive experience in the hospitality business, Michael has already played a crucial part in the company. His previous experience includes various managerial roles, VP of Operations, Managing Partner, and more. "The tireless focus on food quality, leadership by example, and a special passion for training and development of all employees and managers" has helped put Burns in a position of success with his role. His favorite thing about working at Terry Black's is watching someone enjoy one of the best meals they've ever had after taking their first bite of our brisket that melts in your mouth. His go-to meal is our Mac-and-Cheese and Coleslaw with a slice of Brisket and one link of Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage. Michael considers himself a master scuba diver and expert marksman, but in his spare time when he's not working hard at the restaurant, he likes to spend quality time with his wife and kids and travel.
