165,000 prospects will search for a financial advisor on Google next month. They can't work with you if they can't find you. In December 2020, the SEC announced its new marketing rule, giving advisors the ability to gather and post testimonials and reviews. While many advisor-client partnerships start with a referral, client testimonials and reviews play an important role in building credibility and trust to further validate the referral. Although the updated rule gives advisors new access to these marketing tools, there is still confusion across the industry about how and where they can be leveraged. Built in accordance with current SEC and FINRA rules and regulations, Testimonial IQ unlocks previously inaccessible marketing tools for financial advisors, including gathering and sharing critical third-party validation. Understanding the nuances of #testimonial #marketing for #financialadvisors is crucial, especially when it comes to the terms "entanglement" and "adoption." These concepts determine when third-party content, such as testimonials, is considered an advertisement attributable to the advisor. Entanglement refers to how much an advisor is involved in creating the testimonial. Adoption deals with whether the advisor has endorsed or approved the testimonial post-publication. For example, the rules state that if an advisor allows all third parties to post comments on their website or social media without selectively deleting or altering them, these comments are not considered advertisements. However, if the advisor actively participates in preparing or editing the comments, then these comments are attributed to the advisor and are subject to advertising regulations. Practically, this means Google Business Reviews aren't off the table for advisers, so long as there is an appropriate process in place to avoid entanglement and adoption. This approach aligns with the SEC's goal of offering investors unbiased information about potential advisors, enhancing transparency through genuine testimonials.
