Are sidecars dead? It comes down to how secure you have to be. 🔐 Servic mesh proxy modes are different from each other from a security POV. ⚖ You need to weigh your requirements against tradeoffs. Increased security measures may also impact computing costs and performance. The New NIST Standard SP 800-233 explores how to navigate the different proxy modes from a security perspective. It is worth reading if you are interested in the particular risks for each mode and strategies to mitigate them. P.S. I created an overly simplified infographic based on the information in the NIST paper. ♻ Repost if you find this infographic helpful Huabing Zhao I made "Most Secure" green for you 💚

When did you hear of Envoy Gateway? If the answer is today, I would be jealous. I waited almost two years for it to be enterprise-ready. We recently saw the 1.1 release of Envoy Gateway, which enables you to leverage even more of Envoy Proxy's power as a Kubernetes Gateway. It's super exciting to work with the project's committers and contributors and see where the project is going. Bye-bye, Ingress, and Hello, Gateway! P.S. My biggest contribution has been the concepts overview page in the docs. 📄

Comment below 👇 --- 🖼 The picture is generated by ChatGPT when I asked it to create an image of an envoy going through a gateway shaped like the Envoy Proxy logo.

    • An AI generate image, in the style of a fantasy book cover, of a young man standing in front of a hexagon shaped portal. It's shape inspired by the Envoy Proxy logo.
