We drive policy change to improve the lives of Texas children today for a stronger Texas tomorrow.
About us
As a statewide non-profit organization, Texans Care for Children conducts research and engages communities to identify ways that state policies should change to ensure Texas kids and families succeed. We then work with legislators, state officials, partners, the media, and everyday Texans to build support for those policy solutions and ensure state leaders implement them. Our work focuses on maternal and child health, child protection (including foster care), early learning, and children’s mental health.

Hustling around the Capitol getting ready for Tuesday's child care hearing. Go David Feigen!

Big hearing on child care at the Texas House on Tuesday! We're urging legislators to take a number of steps on child care next session, including investing in the child care scholarship (subsidy) program at the Texas Workforce Commission so more working parents — like Claudia — can get off the scholarship waitlist, enroll their kids in high-quality child care, and go to work to support their families. Yay! We have 3 new staff members filling new positions on our policy team! ✅ Muna is focused on mental health services that keep kids safely out of foster care. ✅ Lydia is focused on mental health services and health coverage. ✅ Lauren is focused on pre-k & other early learning priorities. Congrats — and welcome to the team!

"We want to keep families together...That's thousands of families who missed out on dinners together." Kate recently testified about Texas kids who entered foster care NOT because of concerns about abuse/neglect — but because they needed mental health services. Texas has effective youth mental health services focused on kids at risk of entering foster care. The Legislature should make sure these services can reach all the kids who need them!

Many child care positions are vacant because the pay is so low and their potential employees need child care for their OWN kids. Other red states are stepping up to address the child care crisis. Texas should too! #TXlege

Go David Feigen! He's at the Capitol testifying for pre-k, child care, and support for emergent bilingual students. It's part of the Texas House Public Education Committee hearing on ways to improve literacy and math skills in early grades.
